Hi guys, I need your help. Found an puddle of ATF oil under rear driver (your codriver) side. Here is a picture:

I'm guessing HICAS or differential, could someone point me in the right direction?

thanks

That's an easy way to do it! Should have figured it out :hammer:

Yes it's HICAS, rubber pipe is leaking badly. I also realized that picture is not working. So here is a link

Is it safe to drive the car in this condition to mechanic, I don't want to burn the power steering pump and I'm loosing a lot of oil, around 3 dl leaked while car was standing, not running. Or should I get my hands dirty and fix it on the spot.

You will most likey find its a pressurised line, hydraulic type thing. You won't be able to simply slice in a new rubber tube. I had my lines remade by a local hydraulic specialist. Not a cheap cheap solution. Now may or may not be the time to delete hicas.

First things first work out which line and where. It's probably rusted out on the joiner. YOU CAN FIX IT YOURSELF hydraulics are easy.

Firstly I have added some detail to your picture and as you can see the oil is from the diff front pinion seal, the other item close is one of the handbrake cables and the cluster of pipes which are dry are the hicas ones.

As you mention our passenger side is the leak area then its likely the hicas pipes further forward than the picture is where the leak is, in fact there are some clips over the pipes that can some times trap moisture and cause the pipes to rot through, if it is part of the steel pipe it is quite simple to cut a small section out and fit a new piece in ( high pressure rubber with new clips).

Hope that helps.

Top reply jeff.

jeff's guidance on these cars are without doubt 1st class and there would be many less on the road without his help and advice.

glad to see its nothing too major for ya to repair bud.

wow, Jeff thank you for your time and explanation. It's much clear now, I was completely off track. I thought that handbrake cable was HICAS line and that oil on it was the oil coming out. Talk about misleading :) So thank you again. Obviously I will also need to replace diff front pinion seal, one more thing on the list!

Tomorrow I will jack the car and follow HICAS line to find the leak.

I saw the problem without the picture, but it's ok you don't have to thank me lol.

Yes well of course that I am grateful to you too. It's just that Jeff went that extra mile to draw things to me. But yes, thank you too. :)

How long do we have left of these replies jeff before you vacate the country?

Dont` worry the internet is everywhere!!!
