So my speedo doesn't work. To sort this, I tried resoldering it all and it works when it wants to now.

In my inexperience, I bought a set of UK clocks off eBay recently and, upon delivery, they appear to be Series 4 ones as they have an airbag light.

I'd hoped that the speedo itself would be interchangeable but that doesn't appear to be the case. The actual plug sockets on the back of the entire cluster, however, look to be the same as on mine, albeit in slightly different locations.

My question, then, is this: can I plug these straight into my Series 1 car and (airbag light aside) are they likely to work...??

i have a set of uk clocks that has nothing wrong with the electrics but the needles were removed and dont work right anymore.

if your dials are ok you could change them over easy enough and see if it helps to get them working again.

plugs are all different you need same series i think i have a series one from my slicktop in my garage but not home til wed you can have if you want it let me know ,and get on with my interior ...lol

UK models weren't available in series 4 trim, nor were UK models available with an airbag and I don't even think they were available as an option.

This car likes to test my patience, I'll give it that! Other than daft niggly issues, she appears to be behaving herself at the moment....

Sounds like Series 1 clocks are my only way forward so I'd like to take John up on his gracious offer please. And yes, I'm getting on with your interior!!

I have a spare set of S1 UK clocks with an inoperable speedo. You're welcome to have that for the cost of postage if you need to use it for spares.

Thanks Si but it's only the speedo that's a problem.

Hopefully Johnny's cluster will sort the problem and I can then concentrate on other parts of the Zed (like the interior) :)

Can't you take apart the clocks you have just bought and take out the speedo unit and swap it into the my old clocks? Might be worth a try.

That was my original plan but the mounting screw points are totally different between the two speedos. :(

That's a shame. I've not had later style clock sets apart. Can you detatch the circuit board? On of the resistors on the back of mine has likely popped.

Nope, if you take out the speedo unit from the main unit, there's a pcb on the back of that and mounted on that is the speedo motor.

Hmmm. I'd have to have a look to see what's involved, I think.

If you are thinking about butchering the S4 set of clocks please don't! Sir Charles might want them...

Yes my car is in need of new clocks as the odometer has died on them. I have a series 4

I'll take a picture of the front and back of these clocks then so you can see if they're what you need. :)

series 4 clocks (and i think series 3) use surface mount components on the pcbs and everyting is different to series one and two (ie circuit, mounting, shape of dial, plugs, etc)

More importantly Si are series 1 seats going to fit in a series 2 car ????:w00t:

No problem doing that as at one time or another my old S4 had S4, S2 and S1 seats in it! Along with a mixture of S4 and S2 interiors!

As had been found for future reference even the S4 car had the wiring for twin electric seats despite the cut backs!

Hahahaha!! Let's find out, shall we....

The S1.TT. Cluster is differant to the S2.TT. Cluster in that the plugs & sockets on the back are differant and the flex printed circuit has differant amount of connection pins. The S1.TT. & the S2.TT. speedo clock are the same so you can take the speedo clock out of a S1.TT. Cluster and fit it into a S2.TT. Cluster or vice verser.I have done this myself to get a cluster working.
