boost leak test

Hi

Im going to be trying a boost leak test after work

I have the bung and a compresser can anyone give me any pointers?

I have done a search and there also seems to be a clash when it comes to how much psi to use some say 5max and others say working boost which way is the better way?

Cheers

Rich

5 max

start with 4 to see if it holds that pressuse if it goes down quickly then up it to five max so you can listen out for any leaks, if you go to 4 and it holds for 10 min fine if it goes down slowly then just start checking all the pipes listen carfully and a small be of hairy fairy on the finger tip for ckecking of bubbles sometimes helps.

The fsm recommends 5psi, this is because your pressurising part of the system that operates under vacuum only during running conditions. As a result of that you will be applying positive pressure to the heads and oil system via the breather system. If your pcvs are deleted this is irrelivant. It's those two tubes that connect from the cam covers to the accordion pipes that cause the issue. Over pressurising 20+ year old seals is a bad idea.
