Im looking at a car on ebay that ends soon.

 

Just wondering if it was anybody on here or if anybody knew of it?

 

Its been parked up for 12 years and totally standard. No rust he says too.

With one like this I think the best idea would be to go see it, it could be a good cheap motor with a little work or there could be so many perished parts that it would be cheaper to get a runner.

 

Looking at the pics it looks like there is a big scratch on the side of the windscreen.

As above really ^^^^ defo worth a look but keep in mind parts that will prob need replacing and cam belt etc

 

Also, it's a UK car so make sure you check rear sills, arches and floor pan for rust !

The way that thing has been stored has probably done it more harm than if it was used daily for 12 years.

Think you'l find that's dust after the wipers were used, although probably hasn't doens the screens much good wiping 12 years of crap all over it!!!

 

Agree with getting the car checked, it's already at reletivley strong money for a non-runner, so other bidders may have already checked it over.

 

Realistically, you need to look at pricing in a full service, Cambelt, Ider, Thermosat change, new tyres and possibly wiper blinds before you do a pre MOT check as these will be perishing or essential to a 300zx running properly.

 

He may have started on the key after 12 years, but it doesn't mean the engine will appreciate a run out without a thorough check over!, also need some fresh fuel... the drop that in there is probably full of moisture or diluted in combustion by now!

cam belt is quite a big job on these cars aswell so just be prepaired for all the work but if you can get it cheap and it is rust free (still would triple check that tbh as I can see corrosion on all the clips) then it would be a great project

I'd possibly check under the back seat too for rust

I dont have time to check it out before the auction ends, but if I win and its a shed, I can always walk away.

 

Why would you say storing it like that is worse than driving it?

No salt etc in the garage.

Parts might be ceased and rubbers might of perished. Cars need to be used to keep things working as they should

What draws me to it, is the fact that there is a good chance it isn't rusty, and thats the biggest thing for me with any old nissan.

The perishables are exactly that, and easy enough to change.

 

Spend £2000 on that and it will be a very nice car, better than anything id buy for £4000 I suspect.

I don't really agree with that sorry mate, u really are taking a gamble when there have been some really nice, genuine and reliable cars sold on this forum for around 4k and less !

If you've got £3k + to blow on an unknown history car which will go unseen with no come back, you would be well advised as previously suggested to take a look over this and other forums where some excellent cars come up, often for far less then they are worth. There have been a few recently, which are still probably available.

 

The logic being you will be able to get far more history on the vehicle and often find the maintenance has been hands on with some reputable forum members.

You would have to really look at it, as an unknown I wouldn't be prepared to part with more than a thousand. Lack of use really seems to upset these cars, electrical issues etc. it looks honest clean and straight, but it is an unknown. You could drive it 50 miles and smiley a coolant hose and cause major damage.

It needs an experienced enthusiast to take it in, trailer it home and service the living death out of it. It looks like a great base for a restoration, but don't expect to pick up spend a tenner on some oil and a filter and it be ready for the road.

I wasn't planning on a cheap fix, just wanted a solid base to start from.

Ive had many car projects over the years so know what I was getting myself into.

 

Nothing in the for sale section tickles my fancy at the moment.

If you don't mind doing some work on it to get a cheap good z, then there is someone selling a mint shell and someone else selling a good slightly modified engine. The whole lot could be bought for just over 2k

That's fine then, get it trailered home change and flush all fluids filters and belts. Change all rubber water and oil lines. Then get it hooked up to consult and see what you get. :) fair bit of work but probably well worth it.
