Hey everyone!

I have had some pretty crappy news today, work is having to do a relocation due to issues with our office and it is going from a very short cycle ride away, to a 2 hour daily commute :(

I have been trying to work out how to tackle it most ecomonically and just can't make the monthly finances work running the zed for it. I think it is going to have to be the purchase of a deisel run around at the expense of my baby Z... :(

I have already invested a lot in her since picking it up last month and was expecting to be keeping it for good but this has really snuck up and thrown all my plans out the window.

If I can work any other way out then I will, but in the meantime I think I am going to have to put her up for sale :'( gutted doesn't even start to cover it!

Best, William.

Sorry to hear about your news mate, hope you can sort it for the best. Please be aware, you will have to subscribe to sell here.

I think work will have to pay the difference in your travel costs for a year if they are moving your office further away.

I have a pretty lengthy commute at the moment and the Zed's doing all the miles right now, working out around £15 - £20 a day in fuel.

Which is killing me! But I sort of factored for this when I decided to buy a twin turbo'd Japanese muscle car. :D

If I were you, I'd look at all possibilities for keeping the Zed. Even so far as eating beans for a month or two (forever)... ;)

This! Go to the CAB and ask for advice as I think you have a legal right to claim unless they're terminating your employment.

With the difference, I'd go and buy a POS from the auctions. Sir Charles managed to get his hands on a BMW 320TDS for £200....I am sure you can find something for under £500 (not ideal I know). I've always had 2 cars, I could never use the Z as a daily. It also makes you appreciate it more. But you're cycling anyway, so it's a big knock for you.

Sounds mad..... but (Don't laugh si & bird) I had a smart car....... and it was £20 for 2 weeks driving everywhere...... perfect for a work and back daily driver, very cheap tax, petrol and insurance.......

I hated them, till I got to drive one..... like a go cart.... and mine was quite quick for a plastic egg on wheels.....

If I didn't have 2 children and a wife, I would still use one for daily commute and run around.....

(You can Stop laughing now)......

Plus you can park them in the 300 ashtray......lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Smart cars are ok. I wouldn't drive one, but they're better than something like a Renault Clio or any Hyundai/Kia thing (despite their new stuff being half decent).

I was waiting for you or bird to rip the hell outta me.........lol

Narrr. Despite them looking like armchairs with wheels, they're kinda cool as they're different without being junk.

If its over I think 20mile radius of your current location of work then the company have to offer you either compo for a certain amount of time or redundancy.

Hi guys! Thanks for the info! Interesting about the compensation, didn't know that and will have to look into it. Either way I wouldn't want to drive the Zed even with fuel compensated as it would rack up the miles.

Mine is a 1994, is it possible to still get a classic policy if insuring it as a second vehicle? As that is what the hardest bit would be financially I think.

I will try and keep it, I have lists of how I can save money on what eat each month haha. Thanks for the info so far! :)

I insure my zed as a second car, classic policy, with lancaster insurance. it mirrors any no claims bonus you have gained.

all mods declared I pay £220 per year for it. Then i've got a 130bhp diesel grande punto for work that ticks over on average 51mpg and only costs £380 to insure.

I can potantially car share with my boss but that's unreliable as he does ridiculous hours and is quite often away for meetings.

I'll check that insurance company out thanks John - I am 25 so hopefully now over the threshold for a classic policy :)

maybe a cheap 2nd car in your situation may be cheaper than using the zx daily.

i used to do a 300mile a week round trip and it was cheaper in costs for me to have a 2nd car to do it in.

i think when I was 25 I had a classic policy with Sureterm for my RX7.. was more like £280. So if you have no luck with lancaster try them! hope this helps.

hmm so far classic insurance is looking like it is for UK cars only :(

its for any car as long as its old enough.

classic quotes are only available for a 2nd vehicle tho, not a daily driver.

Mines a jap import I have it on a classic policy with Heritage Insurance, doesn't have to be a uk car

You can have classic insurance on a Jap car, but it will be quite limited mileage and won't permit driving to work.

My classic policy is on a Jap Zed, 5k miles per year and includes commuting. :)

I've never managed to get a cheep classic quote, I figured it was just due to my age, but admiral have done me a deal with a multi car policy, So I pay little over £700 for my zed (some mods declared) and my 2.2 diesel civic. They've worked it out as me having 16 years no claims, even though I've only had my license 8 years. I've got every other eligible family member as named drivers though to bring the price down but it's low enough for me.
