Hello again

Good news someone is interested in my 928s therefore i'm a little closer to a 300zx.I've read a little and it seems a '91 onwards would be my choice. One with T-BAR electric seats/mirrors etc i'm not sure of engine size though?

I've enjoyed the 928 auto and would like an auto zx.What sort of price should i be looking for one with 50-60k on the clock?

Is there an owners club that can offer cheap insurance?

Finally i've not actually been in or driven one,are they as much fun as they look?Does anyone a dealer that may hold one i can test?

That'll do for now

Hi Alex,

I looked seriously at the 928 and 944 Turbo before buying my Zed.

Still occasionally hanker after the V8 Rumble :D

It would be interesting to have your hands on comparison once you've got a Zed.

As for the Zed, are you after UK or Import? If UK you'll be very lucky to find one with that sort of mileage.

The Zed only has one engine size: 3ltr V6, what you can get is n/a (normally aspirated) or twin turbo. All UK cars are LWB Twin Turbo's with T tops. The imports offer various varients from SWB to n/a.

Have a look at AndyP's web site for comparison charts.

As for price, the spread seems to be from about £5K to £9K at the moment.

Insurance: Craig is looking at Club insurance but there is none at present, again look at Andy's site for 'friendly' brokers and insurers.

A word on insurance.

If you get a 10 year old one, you will be able to put the car on classic insurance which is alot cheaper and allows you to use your no claims on a 2nd car which some insurance companies require to have with a car on a classic policy.

Hiya mate.

If you want electric (folding in) mirrors you gotta go import! a small detail but I like tucking mine in when parked!

I've had mine (1990 import) for a couple of years now and love it.

If u wanna take a drive to Crystal Palace I'll give you a blast in mine! Its had cats out, boost upgrade, Blitz induction kit, oh, and a new engine from Sylvia Engineering! good for 170 mph.

They're alot of car for the money.

Take it easy.

ive had mine 3 days and just walk round with a big grin on my face, there awesome looks and performance just keep people turning there heads, mines debadged at the back and has no trace of nissan on it, with the tan leather and gleaming red body work and 18 inch wheels people at petrol stations ask me if its a ferrari, i just say close with a smug grin and say better than a ferrari. it certainly leaves em puzzled, i paid 4k for my tt auto 1990 import with 2 owner and 50k on the clock, so theres some good ones to be had, took me 4 months of search tho.

Big...big engine on the Porker though which put me off as I love the XJ-S but again that is just a pipe dream in terms of running costs as I would only go for the 5.3 V-12!

Good luck in your search for a good one, try and get someone on here to help you out if you find a few you think might be or sound like good ones.

Hi Alex,

Send me an email I have one for sale and I am also in West London!

Mark

You'll /way/ like a Z. I lusted after a 928 S4 before I got my Z, but got taken out in a 928 on a track day a while ago - I've never been so disappointed! Nice rumble. But where's the power? OK, so it was a bit wet, but I still reckon you get a lot more for your cash with a Z.

I've had mine since Saturday. I've only just got out of the car. Spent £70 on petrol this weekend just driving having fun. The best part was when a young spotty kid pulled up next to me at the lights in an RS turbo escort and started reving his engine.

What could I do with 315BHP under the bonnet and a full tank of gas...........

Eat my Dust Boy racer :D

Nice one!

So, in having fun mode (i.e. thrashing the arse of it), how far did 70 squid go, 150 miles????

Glad it's lived up to expectation .... I still relish the drive to and from work every day (and still go home the long way for those unecessary extra miles:D )

CheerZ,

John.

Well surprisingly,

I didn't thrash the pants off it as much as I would have liked to for 2 reasons.

1) When I put my foot down in 2nd gear I almost cacked myself :p.

2) I still need 2 new front tyres and with the wind and rain yesterday I though I would drive it a little safer (not granny style but just a little less powering our of the corners).

For £70 of super unleaded (about a tank and a third) I got 600 kilometers / 375 miles.

LOL!!

just after i got mine i had a RS turbo wanting some!! i cruised past him & a few other cars, matey in rs over takes too & is right up my arse at a roundabout joining dual carrigeway, looks in the mirror sees a couple of herberts laughing & nodding to each other.

ok then floored it & by the time i rechecked my mirror, he was just a little speck!! lol!! when will they ever learn?

just cant wait to get me new clutch & lightwieght flywheel in now as I think id have probs burning up a nova at the mo!!!! as soon as the turbo twins kick in, the revs blast round to red line but im going nowhere!!

It's just a shame you can't see their faces when you pull away from them as they still have their pedal on the floor wondering what the hell just happened. :D

I have a stillen clutch on mine and the response is unreal.

Paul, I forgot to tell you my garage has agreed to recieve my order of two new front tyres from "mytyres". So I'll be well up for the drive to kent on Sunday.

Let me know the arrangements and where you want to meet up.

Stuart.Wateman@ants.co.uk (work) StuartMWaterman@hotmail.com (home).

Cheers :D

Stuart

nice one!! see the events forum for details on kent meet - its in a pub just outside Canterbury.

i got a stage 2 rps clutch but the centre plate came through with the friction material damaged so im still waiting for a replacement, im hoping it will be here & in by the weekend tho.

see ya there

The Porsche 928 S4 is faster than a stock 300ZX manual let alone an auto TT :D

Even better....The 928GT simply trounces the 300ZX without the need to resort to twin hairdryers!! :D :D

OK you can turn the boost up in a 300zx...but thats the "poor man's" answer to high performance, not excellence thru engineering. How long will a "tuned" 300zx run for without breaking down?...Not long!!:D :D

PORKER :D

I agree Cuckooz. I don't know what the big deal is. I used to have a 300zx and I was always being beaten by 928s.

Are you handsome and single ?

  • Author

Ok two people reckon the 928 is faster than a 300zx anyone else care to pass judgement?

On another note where can i get cheap insurance for a 300zx i've had one quote for £613 for me and my lady fully comp,we're both 35 and i've been driving since 17!!!!!!!!!!

What's it like on the motorway,is it quiet as my 928 was noisy around town but very quiet on the M4????

Does anyone have any good pictures of the interior including boot,i need to start working out how to fit my in-car??

Alex, don't take any notice of Cuckooz / porker - not a real person at all! Just a well known PITA

(Hairsy OTOH is quite real and giving the PITA no more than deserved :) )

Well I've had a couple of races with 928's, beat them both , it was quite evenly matched races, but it seems as soon as I hooked 3rd gear I would pull away from them.

But I luved killing a 911 C2 three weeks ago.

But if I had to have a Porsche it would be the brand new 911 turbo GT2, what a car.
