Nightmare

Driving home from london today, and notice my breaks are failing,

If I put my foot down it goes to the floor and the car slows a little bit, if I then release the peddle and push down hard I start to break, If i then release again and break they come in ok. after 10 meters off the break though this all starts again

With the car off the breaks go to the floor for a few pumps and then it stays rock hard.

im very confused.

Mike, Air in the system. Have you checked the fluid level in the master cylinder? This normally means you have a leak. Favorite is the seals in one of the slave cylinders (wheel caliper), then the master cylinder seals, then the rubber hoses......... It will only get worse and recommend you check for the leak, and fix immediately - if you have to take it to a garage then top up and keep pumping, and drive slowly when no traffic is about (assuming you don't want the garage to pick up your car).

Take care.

Mike as Geoff says, get it sorted NOW! before it's too late.

Defo air in the system:(

yeah defiently not driving anywhere except a garage,

there are some air bubbles in the top up resovoir just below the filter, I had new discs and pads 5 months ago now :\

Seals might be going in your master cylinder and letting pressure off at a certain piston position inside the cylinder. If the pedal loses pressure when you load it up and it sinks then you have a problem. Check it while you can still stop like the man says!

Might get away with replacing the master cylinder seals if the bore is good otherwise it could mean a new master cylinder..

Let me know if you end up needing a replacement slave or master cylinder. I've got a couple of spare ones you can buy off me.

Thanks

will do she is booked in for monday,

I found a nut on the floor where my rear wheel sits when parked a few days ago, I think now it may be related as I heard a metal sound when i parked up once, I have been noticing a sound from that wheel under breaking, i assumed it was the bearing though

I am lucky that I didn't leave london until gone 10pm or I would have had an accident for sure, its scary have foot to floor and car only slowing down a little bit :(
