Does anyone have any experience Sky Insurance?

Would you recommend them?

On the hunt as it's renewal time and have got quite a competitive quote from them though it almost seems too good to be true.

Cheers

That's good....wonder if there's more on here with good things to say about them.

But then I guess you never really know until the worst happens!

I had a problem with them but I guess mine was a one off.

Footman james was by far the best, but now have changed thier classis insurance rules.

I used them for my daily last year. Prior to travelling I had no claims discount but became void as I was a way so long, I explained this to Sky and they said they'd give me two years at the end of the year. I asked if i'd actually get a renewal certificate stating I had 2 years no claims and was told a definate yes. When it came to renewal this didn't happen so called to query and was told, we can't do that it's illegal you were probably told you'd get 2 years 'discount'. That's not what they said but there's not much I can do about it. Anyway Adrian Flux kicked their renewal quote into the ditch so im with them now. Apart from that the service was fine but I was lied to to get a sale so they won't get my business again.

Used Sky quite a few times. Ollie and the teamhave always been good with me. and were especially helpful when I had to make a claim.

Also try Livingstone's Warman insurance. All 3 of my cars are insured with them and they are great on price.

Zed #2: 1998 Midnight Purple 2+2 NA. (owned 2020 - now)

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

Thanks for all the replies guys!

So the two quotes I've had so far are from Livingstons Warman (£950) and Sky (£477).

Petrolhead - would you be able to elaborate on the problem? How serious was it?

Eggs - that sucks! I'm aiming to get everything in writing that I want included on the policy before I go ahead with it. For example, Chris stated on a call today (and I checked to make him say it twice!) that they offer new for old cover on all parts! Even went into a 3min explanation of exactly what that means!

Sweet, get a copy of the conversation as well lol. New for old is the way to go, I had a quote from AF on my Z with the same and was actually quite reasonable

I've very little experience of AF but just have the impression they are geared towards the 'Max Power' crowd and so might not be so good in the event of a claim.

Plus in the past they've just plucked numbers out of the air when giving me quotes.

Might drop them a line and see what they have to say this year....

And I very much doubt the cover would be new for old! lol..even if I could prove he said it, there's no way they'd allow it!

I once got a 300zx TT insured fully comp with footman james for £104!

Sky did me out of £200 for an error on thier part which they admitted!

I called to cancel a policy whuch they said they did. 2 months down the line, they are chasing me for a canceled direct debit.

I explained the policy had been cancelled, which they listened to the call and agreed it should have been, but wasn't so I owed them 2 months insurance plus charges. I said I wouldn't pay it, which resulted in a debt collection agency calling me to recover debt!

£104?? Incredible! Sure they didn't think it was a Micra?? lol

I've not heard back from Footman James yet.

That's pretty shady what they did though...hmm....I guess it's just one example and all of them will have such examples but something to think about I guess

cheers

Yeah I bet every insurance company have screwed people over the years.

Whats made me want to not use them again tho, is the fact that after I paid it, they said they'd refund it if I could prove I sold the car.

This was a royal PITA, but I got an email from the dvla saying the date of sale. This wasn't enough proof for them tho so wouldn't refund me. Dont know how else I could prove it.

I'm surprised you didn't take them in front of the FSA/Financial Ombudsmen!

Cheers for the heads up though.

I got my zed n/a through footman james yesterday cost me 185 quid now bare in mind im in central London that was a fantastic quote. Its with royal sun alliance who bird works for.

did I mention I get breakdown through axa with that aswell and it was 181 quid lol but yeah very good quote from footman but you do need to be over 30 to get insured through them on classics

You should have a letter as proof of sale from the dvla. They may want that.

Edit: I just noticed that you said they listened to the call and confirmed it should have been cancelled. Sounds a bit silly that. Follow there complaints procedure and ask them to send you their final decision in writing mate.

INSURANCE GOOFA

Datascan, Conzult, ECUTalk and a few others

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

Vig, have you tried Lynbrook?

Just had my renewal though from them. 34, full no claims, 5,000 miles PA...however I don't even do half that! A-rating area (lowest risk area in the country) and garaged overnight, £320 fully comp with glass cover, European cover and insurance to drive any other vehicle.

my n/a cost me over 300.00 that's with full no claims going wrong somewhere

I've been with Sky for 4 or 5 years now. No complaints really - I always take the day off work just to ring around and try to drive my insurance down and Sky usually try to match my best quote. They even reduced it by a tenner this year without even trying!

You'd be able to insure a Twin Turbo for that. I don't actually think there's any real difference in insurance costs between the two. Mine is a Twin Turbo.

think when it time to renew it, start looking else where

I always put the same price down to only the TT being available on the UK market leading to the NA being classed as the same.

Hi, i just got a quote from footman james for 241 and im 25...they never said anything about being over 30...think i ahould double check!

I did contact Footman (via email, same as others as easier to mail them a list of modifications than to run through it every time I call up) and never heard back.

Funki - Same with Lynbrook - no reply from them.

I've ended up going with Sky, largely because they were the lowest quote of the 3 I have in hand and I'm just too busy to try and ring around anymore of them!

My policy is £477 fully comp, all mods declared, like for like cover, agreed value, EU cover, windscreen/legal/courtesy car, 5000 miles and protected NCB.

My details are 31yo, no claims or convictions, locked garage in a high risk area (though it's actually the very nice part of a high risk area!) and 9yrs NCB.

Seeing as how my Elephant cover which is the only one I've had since I bought the Zed (they were the only ones that would cover me for just shy of £1k!) came in at £425 this year with no agreed value, etc...I'm quite happy.
