This weekend I pulled the front suspension apart again for the second time. Greg (the body man) had been working on smoothing the wheel wells out and got some spots in primer. Here's a little preview..

wish I had the balls (and a garage) to do this to mine im loving the look of the bodywork, its gonna look spot on when painted, what colour is it going ??

more importantly than how this looks, its going to snort with that V8 in there! what power are you aiming for? these were circa 300bhp stock werent they? any naughty turbos going in with this, or wanting that pure n/a sound?

i dream of lamping a V8 in mine, but the pennies are going on the sills/restoration this year. Great thread, good to see something different

Gotta make it show AND go to represent my company! I'm going to keep it NA for a little while. That way I can get all the swap bugs figured out. I have a T72 Turbonetics ball bearing turbo that I'm going to try to fit in somewhere down the line. Looking for about 350 NA and then hopefully some of the largest numbers ever pushed from a stock rebuilt VH45 once the T72 is in place. I'll have a low compression engine set aside for when I blow the standard engine apart :-D HEHE! It should be a fun ride!

Got the VW coil pack adapters in today! Some minor dimensional changes need to be made, but all in all I'm very pleased!

The coils do fit underneath the OEM coil pack cover too! The VW coils cost about $20 a piece. Still waiting to figure out the harness, that'll be the fun part!

The engine bay is now in paint... back on with the suspension! Body work is next!

Got everything in for the coil pack upgrade, now I just need to wire them into the harness... no more PTU!

Found some ignition coil packs from a VW that actually fit under the coil pack covers. They also don't need the adapter plates. They are more expensive though since I need to import them. Not sure what will end up being more affordable in the end.

Nice to see another VH on here! You got any details of the 2 coilpack options. It's been concerning me on mine that if I loose a coilpack they're VH specific, that looks like a neat solution :)

Hey John! Love your Z! Whenever I get discouraged about my swap, I just go watch your youtube videos!

The rubber is just a tad smaller in diameter than the spark plug hole. Shouldn't make much of a difference unless you decide to pressure wash your engine bay... Then there might be a problem if your coil covers are off! These coil packs also pack more punch than the OEM VH ignition coils. From my research 20kV vs 31kV. I'm working with Wiring Specialties to come up with New VH45 engine harnesses and sub harnesses. As well as a sub harness that will be a plug-n-play for the VW ignition coils.

Cheers, hopefully it'll be making some noise again before the year is out.

Is the length on them OK too then? If so I'll def have a set off you if you stock them, or the part number if not?!

Not bothered about the harness as I run a standalone system but will be great for the people with stock, those coil sub harnesses get very brittle.

Length is just right, another 2mm shorter and they wouldn't have worked lol! I don't have them stocked at the moment, but I can get them in quickly. If you are interested just shoot me an E-mail or PM

I had a torque plate for the VH45DE made. Although it doesn't pertain to this build just yet... I thought you all would enjoy some machined metal goodness ;) It is also available for rent!

Made some progress on the Z this weekend. Got the fenders and hood in place. All the gaps are perfect and square. Passenger side fender it in primer... installed the hood pins, anad repaired all the dings in the hood. Started fitting the side skirts. Hopefully the front end will get done this week!
