hey ho ive swapped my jdm speedo which has been calibrated to mph has the lil black box, now the speed shows 30mph more then what im doing, for instance when im shifting from 1st to 2nd the speed is 40. i pulled out my trusty tom tom and when im actaully doing 30mph on the tomtom my speedometer is showing 60 mph....

shouldn't it have been a straight swap or is there something else i need to.......

an the fuel light is constantly on, even with half a tank of fuel.

the black box ive removed completely and its not even in the car. made sense to reconnect the cut wire thinking that it may not work properly if i didnt, its basically the original wiring that was split to accommodate the lil black box.

you're car is a Series one... and i assume you new UK clocks are confirmed as the same series?

series 2 has the connectors at different angles and I think the wiring is different.

thats what im thinking but then it would be showing higher speeds even in km. bought it from baz, im quite sure they were the same, i dont remember telling my self if they were any different. it is showing 30mph more

okie dokie ive pulled it out in no time... and based on the side by side comparison they are identical apart from the number stamps. i cant tell the difference between the uk spec speedo vs a jdm speedo.

ill post the pics up and you guys can tell me which is which :D

till now since ive swapped the speedo ive been having the following issues

1, on idle speed shows 19mph

2. while driving its 30mph more then the actual speed

3, low level fuel indicator is constantly on, day and night

4 the back light for the fuel has started to flicker and continues to flicker

i was wondering if this could be a jdm speedo with the dials replaced with uk ones.

The top one is uk but there is one screw missing so they should show a false reading

they should show a false reading? i dont understand. if i put a screw in will it show the correct reading?

for the last few days the uk clock was in but right now they are both sat on my table. im not happy with how this turned out. the jdm worked perfect and im going to be adding it back. any ideas about the flickering light? if its something i can fix ill give it a shot but if its gonna be a long thing then idk :l

gonna have a play with it and see what happens. anyone willing to help with this that is local to manchester?

them two emty holes on your uk clock are marked 100k and 10k ... uk uses 10k and jdm 100k so just take the 100k screw from your jdm and screw it in 10k hole on uk clocks

The dark brown bulb holder behind the fuel gauge is the low level light source, check and clean the copper terminals, change bulb to eliminate that ( 501) same as dash lights. Loosen then re tighten the three screws that hold the fuel gauge and see if that stops the flickering.

Or swap the fuel gauge over from the JDM clocks if that worked fine before, straight plug and play into the UK clocks.

will that correct the speed reading and at idle it showing 19 mph?

i took the buld out and wiped around the connectors, but didnt work. ill loosen and tighten the 3 screws. worse case scenario start swapping bits over to eliminate the issue but i have plans for the jdm speedo so dont want to start taking bits to make what shoulve been working work

thanks fells :thumbup1:

ok so i took the screw out of the jdm however it will not tighten in the uk clock. the screw goes in but wont catch.... now what... got excited that would fix the problem lol but :l

If your speed is constantly 30mph more you can take the needle off put clocks back in the car with no glass start a car and put needle back on zero. Somebody has been messing about with them clocks

I have some later series clocks and do know that the bolts all over the place are different lengths, could it be you're trying to put a shorter one in and of course it doesn't reach ?

There is no plate for the screw on his uk clocks. As you can see on the back there used to be a screw but somebody changed internal bits from different clocks

As Rolandas pointed out, you are missing the tag for the screw to go into.

Also you wouldnt need to take off the needle to try and get it back on in the right place for it to read correctly. You will see there are two blue trim pots, iirc the left one can be adjusted to calibrate the speed, but you will need to drill a hole in the top of the white housing to allow access for a small flat blade screwdriver. You will need to adjust as you are driving, having a sat nav as a comparison and someone in the car with you to adjust it would be ideal.

Thats if adding the tag to the 5k doesnt work.

there used to be a screw there in the 10k hole i can see the markings but there is nothing there for the screw to latch on internally. also looks like something was taken out from the TR2 rectangle. if i remove the screw tag from the jdm clock and place it on the uk speedo it should work right, assuming that is the only thing wrong with it,,,,
