I usually use the alarm key to lock the car.

Today I tried to open the car before I had unlocked it, and hey presto it wasn't actually locked.

I then noticed that when I press the key although you can hear the doors sounding as if they lock, they don't actually lock.

The passenger door can be locked with the key, but not the drivers, it has to be locked and unlocked with the handle inside.

Can anyone shed any light on what is happening?

Cheap enough till you check the shipping, what a bloody ripoff!

Wonder if MJP has anything similar?

It turns left and right, but feels loose and nothing seems to happen.

Whereas the passenger side feels normal and locks?

Can't figure out how the drivers door being faulty stops the central locking working on the passenger door, or are they connected?

Hi, it sounds like the bar connecting the key barrel and the solenoid to the lock mechanism has come away. If you can hear the solenoid going then it must be the mechanism itself....

You will need to remove door panel to check if bar from solenoid is still attached. does it sound like the passenger side tries to lock and then unlocks again?

I will grab my spare mechanism and have a look later....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Found it and done a quick diagram....

It may just be a case of metal bar come out of one of the plastic clips... or clip broken?

Hope this helps....

Stripped the door down today, still to take the outside handle off as there appears to be two small covers over the bolt/screw holes, and they are very stiff, trying to get them out without causing damage.

What I can see inside the car is that there is a metal bar that has snapped, trying to figure out where it goes, will post a pic soon.

id be wanting to check all fuses one under the dash in the footwell drivers side, one of them even isnt listed as the centarl locking i think but the central locking shares it fuse with the intera lights and the little clock. if they work then the fuse is good.if they dont theres your problem.

Sorted, although there was a little collateral damage in that my iPhone got a bit wrecked after I stood on it, had a few nice pics of the repair job as well lol.

Managed to get the two bits of broken bar tied together by bending them then using tying wire, rock solid now and good as new.
