Wheel camber problem

Hi All, Having owned my Z for 7 days now, I'm still in the process of trying to iron out any problems before the really bite me in the butt!

I took the car for wheel alignment today, because the steering wheel wasn't quite sitting true in a straight line, which may have been throwing the HICAS out. The wheel now sits straight so that's one part ironed out...

While it was up on the ramp for alignment, I noticed the drivers side front has a fair amount more negative camber than the nearside. The pictures aren't all that clear, but the drivers side wheel is a good inch further in at the top than the passenger side. This is confirmed by a worn tyre on the inside edge.

What do I need to be looking at tomorrow when I get the car up on jacks?

Other symptoms include vibration at 65ish, which I had put down to wheel balance

Vibration under high speed breaking, which I had assumed was warped rotors. Any other suggestions on this would also be appreciated.

Hoping to get this car handling the way I know it should!

yeah, like Terv says, the lack of spigot rings can cause vibration...

the camber can be a result of lots of things (as can the wobble) I would hazard they are related but that's not a certain.

if you have after market adjustable upper control arms (these are usually associated with lowering springs) one could be damaged.

if not then there may be an issue with the standard control arm, the bushed could be shot, that would also explain wobble at speed and under breaking.

one of your springs could be shot (although unlikely) it does happen some tines but that would be associated with the car being lower on one side.

it could also be the bushing in the lower control arm, again throwing the bottom out and also giving you that wobble.

you need it up on an MOT ramp to move the whole assembly around (before spending any money of rotors).

best of luck.

Cheers guys, I've had the front upper camber arms out today, and there is some slight play in the joint but not actually as much as I was expecting. Some of the bolts were.... difficult to undo, and I ended up grinding one of the lower 14mm mount nuts off, so I'm after a couple of replacements, I'll post a wanted add...

I've bought some adjustable upper camber arms as the first step to try and eliminate this camber problem, and see where we go from there... I can see it being some lower control arms and tension rods too....

All part of buying a new car I keep telling myself :)

Thanks for the help so far!

If you have standard suspension, it sags over time and that in turn has a direct affect on the camber, as too does fitting lower springs. Because the camber arms are non adjustable, you'll get what you've currently got. It's not a case of worn anything else, the adjustable camber arms WILL on their own, fix that excessive negative camber.

I will point out though that you'll also need adjustable tension rods NOW as you'll put undue stress on the stock tension rods which, in extreme cases causes them to tear out of their seating on the lower bracket.

Thanks for the advice Si, I have orders some tension rods anyway to try and cure the brake-shake.

With the adjustable arms, I have managed to get the car running straight and true, so I'm happy with that!

On to the new problem of binding brakes!!

Thanks for your help everyone!
