Heater Core Bypass

Today I decided with determination to do something to my car as its been neglected my touch! I jumped in and with my handy torch app i took a look at the drivers side foot floor and immediately noticed some browny residue on the carpet above the foot rest

im sold that it was leaking from there and it makes sense where it is damp. never doubted you guys but just had something stuck in my head and i can get pretty unrestful if i dont understand where and why if i dont come to a conclusion (thanks for the help and advice btw).... anyway having seen that, it was enough motivation for me to do the bypass from behind the engine. i took both pipes off it wasnt that hard just hard to pull on something with just the tip of two fingers, a little but of struggle and prying and they both were off. no leakage or spillage which i was expecting. but nothing both pipes were pretty much dry, which made me tell myself to check the radiator. i was leaning over the right fender and when i stood up straight i couldn't bend my knees properly!! started walking funny!!

so i went over to a local hard ware store and they had nothing, they refered me to a radiator company and they couldnt help either but after a short conversation they custom build any type of radiators including performance ones, good to know!! from there i went to a garage spoke to the mechanic and he pointed me in the direction where the junk stuff was. After a few minutes i came across a mercedes sprinter van that had the engine removed which was basically scrap and found this bad boy hanging from some radiator pipe on the firewall

think of the letter J invert the letter and then rotate it to the right 90 degrees. a lil of wd40 to lubricate the connecting points and waalah! i have to say for a freebie it is perfect!!! i didnt have to cut it all!! it just fit like it was made for it!!! the twist and bend made it a perfect fit. no snags or pinches.

i think it turned out very good until i decide what to do next with the heater core, so i checked the radiator and it seemed empty and after filling a 1.5 litre pepsi bottle thinking it would at least take half of it it only took maybe too half a glass at most. i started the car and let it run for a while then took it for a quick spin, got it washed parked up checked the levels ans all fine.

i hope i havent bypassed something else! i shouldnt have a damp carpet anymore and loss of anything! and i have some piece of mind that something has been fixed!

Good find on the pipe front, makes it easier when you get a bit of luck lol, at least it has given you time to gt the matrix out and still use the car

true and yup!! also theres no harm in driving it like that for a while is there?

No, i drove with a bypass for months before i replaced the matrix, all you are doing is bypassing the matrix, no detriment to the engine circulation at all.
