Going to be selling the wife's del sol as its just not practical only having 2 seats. She had narrowed it down to a rx8 or a 206cc. I prefer the rx8 what do you guys recon? Anyone had experience of either?

There was a thread some time ago about running an rx8 and it didn't fare to well. Nice looking cars tho, but expensive to maintain, hence why they are so cheap now. How bout something like a celica t sport?

RX8 look nice but as said expensive to run, parts are expensive, for eg: i had one to look at for a mate who had an engine warning light on, turned out to be the float/needle in the expansion tank had broken, you cant replace the float as it is a sealed unit and the whole tank was something like £260 from Mazda and thats on top of the £2k for the engine rebuild and more for coil packs and other work he paid for to get it right, he bought it cheap knowing it needed work, but should have bought a newer lower mileage one and saved himself the hassle and a few quid.

Another mate of mine has one and he loves it, but its not off his drive that often and he is always polishing it, so more a weekend toy for him i guess.

You can get horror stories with any car, so i would do some research and try to get a good one, not one of the real cheapies from ebay lol

yeah m8 there is a thread think nicci started it, dont buy the rx8 the engine goes around 40-50k if they not been looked after, so make sure engine has been sorted great looking car a bollix on fuel worse than a zed,

I had an RX8 a few years back....I think it was under 4 years old and had extended Mazda warranty so we had no issues with it. Was the 225 bhp version and it looked great and liked the interior etc, but it's a little uninspiring to drive. Also, drinks petrol and goes through a lot of oil, which isn't a big deal as you just have to remember to top up.

Also had those rumours about the engine seizing if the car wasn't warmed up, so if you moved it a few yards and then turned off apparently it could cause issues. IIRC, you had to rev up to x amount and then immediately turn the engine off to stop that happening. Never had a prob myself but always revved it up... Just in case! Not sure if that "myth" was ever expelled but there was certainly a lot about it back then.

Petrol costs are my main memory of it, my other half had a petrol card so only paid 40% tax on the benefit and it was still a fair amount.

A 206CC...? They're virtually a 2-seater car - the rear seats are beyond tiny!

Yes the ****el engine likes to have the balls revved off it to keep it alive

Bloody swear filter lol

That's right, it behaves best being ringed within an inch of its life. Great for race cars crap for road cars.

yeah had a good read through stuff for the rx8 last night and as much as I love the looks just don't trust the car. but the way I see it is I can let her get the 206cc then she thinks she has won lol

as regards to the rear seats in the 206cc all we want is something that will be big enough for my little girl to sit in so they are fine

I currently work at a Peugeot dealer and whilst I can't get excited about most of the cars Peugeot churn out the 206 was a very reliable car.

Good advice from someone in the know I'd say.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

That's more like it mate - not my thing; but it is for your wife and it's better than the RX8!

My sister has the same car herself and she has no trouble with space for her 8 year old in the back.

Yeah we started lookin at 206cc but a garage had one of these to and she liked it a lot more lol also double the price haha

My friend wanted a 207. We went to look at several of them. All a bit older than the one shown and the hatchback, but all low mileage, fsh etc. in every case the paintwork had issues and the body trim was deteriorating. Don't think they will age very well unless the build quality is better on the cab.
