Changing CAS / crank angle sensor

Just curious whether there's a procedure to changing the CAS. I would search but the search facility is pants and doesn't let you search for 3 letter things.

I've not tried to change it yet and it may well be obvious (markers or something) but I thought I'd ask as I'm wondering if I instal it wrong if it'll cause a problem

Mark it up, pull it out, put new one in and use a timing gun to make sure timing is correct.

Is it really that easy though? So for example, if my current CAS is in the Middle and at 15, I take out and if I put the new one in with for example it turned all the way to the right or the left. Will the timing automatically be out or will it be at 15 still but with the unit looking wrong. Hope that makes sense

You'll more than likely have to adjust the timing anyway mate, don't use conzult to tell you what it is make sure you set it with a gun.

Not too sure if I'm being clear enough with my question here, sorry if I'm not...

I know it'll probably need the timing set again, I'm more wanting to know if when I change it, 15° will always be around the middle of the CAS no matter what position the CAS is in when I put it on the car.

Or is there only one way it'll fit etc

No if its not in the same place I believe it will be out. Best to check either way with the gun. Ive done 2 before this way and had no probs yet, I can pop down and give you a hand if u like, I have a gun too.

Iff you look at the end of the cam there is a little half moon that slots into the CAS nose, plus it has teeth also to engage so you cant go wrong..after fitting put the timing gun on number 1 coil pack feed and check timing.Job done.

Thanks Bri,

So there's only one way that it fits then

in relation to end of cam yes Lee

Just be careful as they have a flat tang on the end of the cam which gives location on the Cas, if your rough with it it can snap off, causing a bit of a faff when trying to relocate it back on the splined cam

this is true as my cam came with the same problem...i use the drift pin in the CAS shaft now as a reference when sliding onto the spline
