Hey

Have just completed a compression test. These were the results.

Bottom Left - 160

Middle left - 150

Top Left - 140

Bottom right - 70

Middle right - 70

Top right - 50

Dosent look good to me!! What results should I be seeing. Any ideas on likely problems with readings like that?

Cheers,

Nick

Next job I suppose I gotta remove headgasket???

Thinking it could be pistons?

Maybe valves?

Or rings??

Anyone any knowledge is this field, whole right side of engine compression very low

i doubt its the pistons/rings.

More than likely top end, could be stuck valves, HG doesnt seem likely across all three bores but its possible.

It runs fine except for the exhaust is like a steam train plenty of smoke

Engine sounds good on tickover

seems strange to have such a good readout for the drivers side

Then really low on the passenger side

Is it worth me pulling the head off to establish whats going on and repair maybe 1 head

or is it a new engine that's needed

Where is the most likely place the compression could be going to as it seems on a leakdown test its coming through the intake

Could it be all the inlet valves are stuck ?? and if so how and why ???

I posted this on March 23rd:

Awesome looking Zed, but the eBay ad and forum thread (if seen in time) should have made anyone approach with extreme caution. Funnily enough, another recent thread made me think about this very Zed and I was actually watching it on eBay...

Which "Apexi ECU" is it? SAFC II? If it's running one of those piggybacking the stock chip, the huge amount of smoke could be due to a cracked ringland on 5th or 6th as already mentioned in this thread. Compression test it first of all. The Mikalor-style hose clamps won't be helping keep the boost inside those pipes, either.

If it was indeed "running over 400bhp at 13psi" (or 14psi in the later ad), then the turbos aren't stock. There is no mention of larger injectors.

Stop booting it. It's not going to get any better

*Recently went for a dyno just to make sure there were no issue's but there were and these have now been fixed, She ran 316 BHP with the following issue's 2 of the hose clamps were loose and needed replacing losing over 5 psi. Fanbelt was lose and was squeaking it's headoff, The dyno chap could not get traction at all and we ended up doing the dyno in 5th gear and it was still spinning, also she was only taken to 4500 rpm when the optimal range would have been at 6,000.

There's so much wrong with that paragraph I don't know where to begin. Sufice to say, the usual reason to abort a run at 4500 RPM is due to detonation or leaning out. A car that spins up on a dyno either has no tyres fitted, isn't strapped down properly or is running Herculean power levels. Find someone close by and get the fueling & timing/knock checked ASAP. Keep it off boost until you know what's going on.

Good luck

I knew this car was going to be a nightmare, from the very first time 'rageness' posted up here fishing for prices with his strange attitude: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?166631-Hey-guys-gals-New-owner-looking-for-a-bit-of-info&highlight=altia+sills, to when it was on eBay with zero reserve and the guy's subsequent temporary banning for having a bad attitude.

Still running a Blitz Access ECU, or has it been tuned correctly for UK fuel? Or is this a new engine after the engine bay fire? Has it been run on the same ECU as before, or is this a compression test before firing up for the first time?

Not really as its all ways the Passenger side that goes ... Mainly cly 5>6 ..

but with all 3 very low and the smoke sounds like head gasket

worst case piston rings

valves would give u low comp but not smoke once running

did you loose loads of coolant when it set on fire? my guess is that it overheated in the process and you have warped the head. Personally it would be cheaper easier and faster to pull it out and replace it with one that has good compression and hasn't been on fire lol.
