My might AstraVan has been in for its second MOT today which puts it at 4 years old although it sat on a forcourt for the first 6 months of its life and we bought it pre-reg in the November of 2009 with 23miles on the clock. So we have had it 3 and a half years.

Its now done 141,200 and in that time had:

2 Full sets of Tyres

1 Set of front Brake pads

2 Headlight bulbs

1 Set of Wipers

1 Crank oil seal

1 Front Wheel bearing

Cambelt change and 7 services

I don't think thats half bad considering the pain it takes!

What other silly milages with next to no maintainence have people managed?

My old marina did 240k before my dad borrowed it and wrote it off. But he did need a new engine and increasing amounts of welding!! (The car, not my dad!) but apart from that I had very little to replace.

second astravan post in 2 days, both to do with MOT? in that case, is it the Mk 4, if so can you have a ganders at the thread i put up yesterday in the non zed related section, you would be the best person to ask about it as you have one, but how do the rear shocks and springs fit?

Very impressive, I can imagine it was getting like triggers broom though?!

No mine is a Mk5 sadly mate, on an 09 plate the one your looking at must be what, pre 06? I've got no idea how the rear shocks and springs fit tbh but as far as I know there should be little if no difference to the estate model of the car so might be easier to look at those and see how those come to bits?

The bodywork was actually mint apart from the sills which I had replaced. But underneath was a bit dodgy! Stupid dad charged round a corner dukes of hazard style and collapsed the suspension.

I bought a brand new Volvo S40 (2.0 TDi) as a company car for one of our surveyors a few years back. Just under 2 years later, he had covered over 140,000 miles and, routine servicing apart, the car only got through 2 sets of tyres (I put the 3rd set on to sell it to another employee; - so it only used 2 sets) and had only 1 change of front brake pads.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
