I've been trying to move a bolt that's been stuck for many years as JeffTT said previously to try tightening an Allen key bolt with a nut round it. I just cannot move the dam nut.

Any ideas on the best way to move it?

get it in a vice mate, im back at work next week, i can try and remove it for ya if ya want, sure ive got something at work to remove it, failing that try cutting it off?

Plus Gas overnight, heat nut (not too hot as it may damage seals in dump valve I have these and IIRC they are aluminum and heat transfers very quickly) Use 5mm allen key and some stilsons if you round it off anymore a nut splitter cos you'll need a new nut anyway, also clean the threads up with a wire brush when its off :)

soak it in wd in a tub until we can get round to it.. might need a bit of heat as well...

These badgers are perfect for this kind of thing, I swear they are one of the best things I've ever bought. Pop the right size on a ratchet and it grips the nut allowing you to undo it

What are stillsons mate?

they are what cowboys wear... lmao... i have some you can borrow, or a trade card you can use...

Yeah they look like the same thing mate.

If needs be as long as you guys can figure out what size you need you can borrow one of mine, I can pop it in the post and when you're finished just post it back

Oh yeah they do make a mess of softer metal nuts and bolt heads. I had a rounded nut on my red zed's upper camber arm mount that was a propper bastid' and whatever I tried the thing wouldn't shift. I bought these and it came off with no trouble at all, but yes I agree they aren't great if you want to re-use whatever it is that you're trying to remove.

That's great, thanks mate.

I think one of the problems I'm having is getting a tight enough hold of the bov to be able to really turn the nut

Do u have or have access to a vice as Stella suggested? They help massively

  • Author

No, sadly I don't.

I've just been round PaulZX's and he couldn't budge it either. Tried with the Stimpson or whatever it was called.

Might have to be a nut cracker like

Lets face it we all want a go at nutgate !!!

I'd be definitely locking some grips on this as tight as is humanly possible and or a vice then there is warming it up, come on you North East boys you're starting now to come across as some sort of big girlie blouses .
