Example of a knackered starter motor and a working starter motor

I swapped the zed's knackered starter motor for a working one today, I was surprised at how much play there was in the old one!

It started to make that horrible 'screetching/scraping' sound about 18 months ago and would take about 2-3 attempts to start up. Then it gradually got worse until recently when it just wouldn't start full stop.

Once I'd taken the starter motor off I could see where the teeth on the motor had been almost catching the teeth on the flywheel but not quite.

Hmmm. I wonder if I have that problem. Anyone got a video or the sound it makes?

Easy enough mate, on a ramp it would take no time.....lying on your back with the car on stands takes a bit longer
