I posted at the start of this month i had bought a SWB N/a with a naff engine and was planning on doing a TT swap among other things and general tinkery stuffs.... ( BTW i bought this with a Big end Bearing gone.....)

Well i started to strip her down and upon removing the R/h Wing i found this abomination!

IMG_0635-1.jpg

Then obviously having to remove the engine and planning on stripping the underside i start removing the engine beginning with the Fluids and find a certain something peeping out the sump! (the dipstick i knew about when buying the car and the look on the owners face when i asked him where the rest of it was was priceless)

This next one isnt detrimental but i thought, at least I've gained something so far from buying this.....

Now for my favorite surprise ive had yet...

Well update time....Just over 2 weeks ago i went for my 'first drive' and in honesty it never went well. I barely got 30ft from the garage until some horrendous noise and shuddering occurred. after backing it in the garage and thinking, I gave Lee dent a fairly brief description of the issue and without any hesitation he claimed it was from a prop shaft which was too long. Well the weirdo was right so heres a pic!

luckily it was only just too big and never damaged the rear of the gearbox. Well after consulting with Jeff and lynda once again and the pair of them being ever helpful once again i fitted it all back together but in the meantime I received my arch rolling tool.

Heres my temporary exhaust i made from scraps of tubes and back boxes donated from Lee Dent

As the majority of it is mild steel i gave it some paint to stop it looking hideous so quickly.

And last but not least.....My second attempt at driving my V8 Zed.

>>>>>>>>>>

Propshaft is now of the correct length

The car is SO much louder than shown in the video (hope it gets through an MOT)

The exhaust drones so much in car its unbelievable,

The road i tested it on shook me to bits it was unreal (the roads fault)

Those tires have zero grip in the wet,

but all in all it was a success....i think.

Looking good mate.

Just thinking on your bonnet. What's the plan? FFS don't go sticking a hidious vent on it.

When Nissan changed from the VQ35DE to the VQ35HR engine in the 350z they had to change the bonnet profile and give it a "hump" to allow for the higher engine.

Maybe you could do something similar and graft a hump into a standard bonnet? (I'm on my phone so can't post links. But the bonnet style changed in 2008).

Zed #1: 1995 Blue Slicktop NA (2013-2015)

I completely understand what your saying, and im hoping to get another front subframe to chop up and lower the engine around just under an Inch to avoid any humps at all because i think they look Sh!te! However i cant do much about that at the moment so engine poking out of he bonnet it is for now. As you can see the bonnet i have chopped up is slightly dented here and there so no matter. I already have a fresh bonnet to put on as soon as i have lowered the engine.

That sounds sooo nice bud :bow:

The arches will need a bit of work but suits the car not having flares on them

Alan, I don't know why your telling me they need work, your the one who's going to be sorting them ;) (i hope)

anyway i went out in it today for the first time to pic up this piece of paper. It hasnt had one in 7 years and before anyone says anything, no cheating took place!

After evaluating the tolerances of loweing the engine it looks like its either custom inlet manifold and another custom sump....or a bonnet bulge.

...yay.

Can't believe the work you have done. Unbelievable, absolutely awesome. Want you to do mine.

  • Author

You aint heard it yet paul, it sounds like im being followed by a dragon!

That exhaust i made (whilst its temporary i did it on my back on axle stands) is super loud.

Hopefully i make it to ToTB as it maybe a similar colour to yours this time ;)

Just arrived are my new seats for the shortie. They feel so good compared to the normal zed seats.

Mondo will at some point be trimming my interior to match these and i cant wait as his work is EPIC.

Wow nice seats bro. What they from? Or new..?

Well After trying to align my schedules with noel and failing due to both our commiments and im soon to be leaving the country for some time i took a chance and went with a different tuner.

Will Hinchcliffe of Race Dyno Tuning at Harworth Doncaster.

First things first we did a compression test (which i was yet to have done) and revealed the following:

1-190 2-190

3-180 4-190

5-180 6-190

7-185 8-190

From there we found a fuel leak which was swiftly fixed with a helpful spectatre at the unit which ran me across to the neared hydraulics shop! (owe him a beer)

The first run revealed 160 hp which was laughable.

After some time of tuning and so on and enabling VTC The following pics shows the results.

It Achieved 296lbft torque and 275 Rwhp

finalfs.jpg

And here is a video i managed to get between a few pulls (not the final tune)

Will doesnt at the moment tune stock ecu's with the nistune software. But if you need another tuner because you cant get to noel he is a great guy, and such a geek!
