Hi there i have had a new power steering pump. Before this my hicas light was permantly on, on the dash. Now it would appear i have a leak in the system and every time the oil level drops the hicas light will come on.

Anyway till i get it sorted my question is. If the light is on dose this mean the four wheel steer is disabled?

I ask this as the light will flick on and off in corners and im a bit on edge about the car switching between 4 wheel steer and 2 wheel steer in the middle of the twisty bits!!!!

Any one know?

And is there just an easy way to turn this 4 wheel steer of because I like putting the back end out and not guessing what the four wheel steer will do!!!

Thanks.

Mike.

You're right that the HICAS is disabled whenever the warning light is on.

It's possible to disable the system completely (the Americans like doing this) but I think the general consensus is that HICAS can only enhance the drive - even (especially?) if you like getting it sideways :)

oh dear I'm learning new things everyday

My hicas light just started coming on, though my fluid levels are fine.

it doesn't do it all the time , though just pops up more frequently now

is the sensor knackered.???

or am i talking rubbish?

how do I test/fix it saw a hicas test thread is that worth doing?

or do i need to be a more mechanically minded??

Top up the fluid and if that doesnt help you should perform a HICAS diagnostic on your car and that should tell you what the light is on for.

I dont have that problem. My car has had the HICAS disabled.

say around 15 minutes in a more or less straight line, then your steering wheel sensor is not lined up properly.

To be frank, you wont notice the difference a great deal in slow corners ect or going sideways as it only activates above a certain speed anyway (80mph?? i stand to be corrected) and if your doing powerslides at 80mph i one of these you iether have to much or to little in the brain department :D (JOKE) HE HE

cant you disable the HICAS by removing the fuse for it or something?

Wouldnt it be a more sensible option to find the leak though? ;)

I thought Hicas cut in at 30MPH????? I can feel it through the twisty bits, or im going gu gar!!!!!

Tempory fix for now untill i get the pipe replaced a tie rap is now holding the sensor in place thus it cant go down with the level of the oil. Just got to check the oil V regular at the moment!!!

Thats with the later models of Z where the HICAS was electrical and not mechnical as it is now. :(

There are many myths about HICAS. Some say it doesnt work until 20mph and some say it stops working at 30mph.

Some one in the US put a light in the dash that light up when the HICAS was working. And he said that its working virutally all the time. I think he said its about 100mph is when it stopped working
