Nah, of course not. :) However, now that I perhaps have your attention....

I have a couple of problems which I don't seem able to resolve and, so far, no-one has replied to. :(

First off, I've managed to aquire a speedo convertor/delimiter which i'd like to fit to my J import. Unfortunately I do not have the wiring instructions for it. Surely someone, somewhere has had one fitted and has the instructions? Or perhaps someone can point me in the right direction?

The other is one which has been asked by a few others over time and also appears not to have an answer.

At the request of the wife, who also drives the Z, I had a reversing sensor fitted. However, the standard reversing chime butting in tends to rather confuse things. Has anyone actually found a way of disabling this? Failing that, is it possible to disable the actual chime unit altogether? Or is there an important reason why this should not be done?

Help pleeeeeze

Reversing chime?

I dunno, everybody else's j-spec cars seem so musical, singing and chiming when they reverse, go fast, or whatever - mine seems to have lost her voice :D

I guess that means it's possible to disable the sfx; no idea how, though - sorry.

Raz,

Does yours still chime when you open the door with the headlights on? If not, maybe the whole chime unit has been disconnected.

I'd love to be able to disable the reversing chime too.

Yep, the 'open door' chime is the only one I get (even though I still have the 110mph limiter)

I get a speed chime & a headlights-on chime, but no reversing chime - had no idea it was supposed to do that :/ Anyway, maybe that shows it's possible to isolate the reversing chime (assuming the SWB NA should still have it).

It's easy enough to disable the speed chime if you want to do that too.

The problem with the reversing chime is that it makes you feel like you're driving a truck! You aren't missing out by not having it, trust me! :D

The reversing chime is really annoying until......you are faffing about picking someone up, leave it in gear, and then go to pull away at 40mph BACKWARDS..... ooooops!!!!

How much time do you spend in reverse anayway?!?!?

If you look at the original post:

On its own, you can live with the standard chime. However, mixed in with the chimes of the newly fitted sensors, it does make things rather difficult. ;)

The missus doesn't know how long the Z is and you let her drive it!?!

Are you MAD??

(Cue gnashing of teeth from the birds):D

I've fitted a few speed sensors before. Let me know which one you have and I'll tell you if I can help.

Unfortunately, I have no idea which one. It's what appears to be a small board, 1.5" long, within heat-shrink black plastic.

Six wires protruding, Black, Red, Green, Orange, Yellow, Blue, in that order. The orange & Yellow have been cut back & taped, so I guess they weren't used.

Letting your missus drive the Z is one thing, But letting her reverse it,?? Thats just asking for trouble!!

OK,

Do you have any idea where it came from or who supplied it?

The wiring on the speedo is simple - I know which wires to cut into on the looms on the car.

This unit sounds like a simple 4 wire convertor. If I can remember (i need to double check), 1 wire on the unit will "cut" into the live (probably the red one), I wire will "cut" into the earth, probably the black one and the remaining 2 wires will bypass the the speed signal wire. Its just finding out which way round as one goes to the speed sensor end and the other, the speedo cluster end, hense the signal is bypassed though the convertor.

I will check with Luke at the Z centre who supplies convertors for the Z. From what I can remeber, the colours sound exactly the same...otherwise it will just be trial and error getting the green and blue wire the correct way around - 50/50.

Where abouts are you based?

Cheers
