another blue smoke thread.

As the title states, another blue smoke thread.

I have read through some of the previous threads about this but haven't really got anywhere.

My issue is....

When I start up from cold I get a little bit of smoke, this continues for about 5 mins of no boost.

Once warmed up and boosts for the first time, I see more smoke but then after that its all gone.

Is this down to the turbos or something else?

Sounds like valve stem seals, if they are leaking, they leak into the cylinder while the engine is off usually over night, then burn off when the car is first started in the morning.

So not the turbos then!?

Because that was what I was dreading to be told.

Is the valve stem seals a long and expensive job too though?

Valve stem seals can be accessed with the cams out of the way which means the front has to be striped down, the timing belt removed, either take the engine out, or struggle with the exhaust cam to get that out of the way to get to the seals. most likely be easier just ripping the engine out and doing it out of the car.

If I was to leave it while I saved up for the work to be done (it is my daily driver), what would be the outcome?

Not much in the short term, just keep an eye on the oil level, mine does it as well, my blue zed did it eventually also.

The stem seals are cheap to get from z1 motor sports who do a better quality one than the OEM ones but at a much reduced price.

Ill be doing mine eventually when i get around to rebuilding the engine.

Cheers vods. Good, clear and easy to understand info.

Think jeff may have to have my car back for a bit to rectify this issue :)

If your reading this jeff, what would be the damage to my piggy bank for a job like this, plus cam belt (already got the belt off you on the last visit) and while your at it, water pump?
