The company that I entrusted to install the tyres on my new 19" Volks damaged the paint on the face of one of the rims, oops! They were very apologetic and have agreed to have the wheel refurbed no questions. However!... The wheels are painted in a colour that Volk do not publish the paint code for, nor will they supply paint, called formula silver. The refurb company have just been round and said it will be hard to match but he thinks he can get it close enough.

If I wanted the other wheels doing to match it would cost £65+vat each for the other 3. The tyre company have said, if it doesn't match then they will pay to paint the other 3, but only based on the wheels fitted to the car and standing a few feet back. He said they will never get it identical but if its close enough they won't pay. The whole situation is a bit subjective as spotting differences in the paint colour will vary from one opinion to another. It's not just the colour but the overall finish and depth of colour where I think the downfall will be?

I'm sure that the oem paint on these wheels is good quality, so I'm also concerned that having it repainted will potentially leave it with a sub standard durability. It's also annoying down to the niggly little details of the stickers on the inside of the rim being missing on that one wheel or all wheels.

I'm reluctant to give the refurb company the wheel as once it's done, there's no going back! Just thought I'd have a little rant and see what you lot think?

Joel.

Accidents happen unfortunately and there really isn't too much that you can do about this. At the end of the day, taking a claim to the small claims court would be a long drawn out process and there's a good argument that the fitters have acted reasonably in offering to have the damaged wheel refurbed with the possibility of having the other 3 done if it doesn't go to plan. First off I'd hand the wheel over and see what the result is after the refurb and then go from there...

That sucks. Mine were originally formula silver, good luck matching that!

that ant right you pay good cash for the rims and thay damage them and get them painted close and that's ok from a few ft back that's it f-ck that thay should fix the lot for free or get a new rim end off no ifs no buts push them thay damaged it thay fix m8

Not a great sitaution Joel, guess you either have to live with the damage or hope that they wheel refurb company can get very close to the original paint.

Neither ideal, but which option will be easier to live with?

Angel and the devil! I think you're both right but they seem to be being fair so I think I just need to get the one done and take it from there.

Doh! :-(

If I leave it I think it will annoy me every time I see it, especially knowing it could've been rectified free of charge (potentially!)

So how much would a replacement wheel cost ?

Unfortunately, this isn't an option as they've been discontinued and are no longer available. I bought these wheels 2nd hand, although they look brand new, I wouldn't be surprised if they had never been fitted to a car! The guy I bought them from said they cost nearly £900 each new, which is why I bought them 2nd hand!

So, I guess the best option is to let the refurbing company do their best and then if that is not good enough decide on the next step. Do you have a choice of refurb company ? Some are better than others. I guess it is in the best interest of the tyre fitting place to get it done properly and so far they seem to have been pretty reasonable in their approach.

Let them refurb it and go from there. Once the wheel is fitted I doubt you will see a difference at all.

What about getting one of those dent doctors to see if he can match the paint, if he can touch it in you will never see it.

Paul

Fook is that it, you could match that up your self with some silver enamel touch it up t cut it in and when its on the car you will never see it you big pudding.

Haha  another reason why I've been reluctant to risk ruining them. Even so, minor as it is, it still stands out now I know it's there and I have the opportunity to get it back to how it should be (possibly!)

for a knick like that I'd leave it, as a slight mismatch refurb will annoy you more.

Anyway, you'll probably curb them in a few months - a mark that small will be the least of your worries!

Not worth it, I would just touch it up or even get the wheel guy to do it the very best they can. They would get it so close you would never see it and once its on the car near impossible to see. That way you get to knee the quality and don't have to risk the colour change,

The garage will only say its close enough anyway,

If it was me I would of just too it home and do it my self, no offence but I would be embarrassed to bring it up. And tbh as soon as you've put a couple of miles on them you will get a few stone chips lol

Agree with above, allow the wheel company to try and touch it up. They fooked it, they should at least try and fix it. Just the nick in the paint mind, not the whole rim!!
