  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

By the book (engine drain plugs are difficult to access):

That's the page I referenced. Couldn't find the plugs, and even if I did I doubt access would be possible.

The "garden hose" method might be a better idea. Then again, this might do for a few months as the 200,000KM service would make it easier.

I would just empty it, fill it with water, run for a couple minutes (until warm so the thermostat opens), then drain and fill with coolant.

That's another thing - took 20-30 minutes for the thermostat to open

Faulty thermostat?

No idea. Never overheats.

By saying it takes 30 minutes to open, do you mean it takes 30 minutes the warm up to running temp? That would indicate thermostat stuck open.

Warmed up in a reasonable amount of time, but it took that long to feel any heat in the radiator hoses.

Took the SWB out of the garage for a quick drive in the sun  It always feels strange driving a manual car after driving the auto BMW but soon remembered that I needed to change the gears lol. Found one fault with the Z as the glove box wont stay closed :( will have to take the lock out to see whats going on.

It's a fairly common problem, Jeff will probably know the fix but have a look to see if the catch has bent at all because it's a fairly thin metal.

I remember the same thing happened with my black LWB and I ended up buying another glove box to take the lock out of. Will check it later.

My stat was stuck wide open Dutch. I never had overheats and it took about 10 minutes of driving to warm up..

Since Lee Dent put a new stat in, it warms up in about 5 minutes now

I drove to work this morning and it seems fine. Radiator hoses were pretty hot, no overheating. Maybe the fan is enough to keep it cool at idle - ambient temperature was a bit low the other day too.

You're welcome BedZee, thoroughly enjoyed the day mate.

To be honest, I was chuffed you were confident enough to let me get my spanners out on your z.

Had to laugh at the thought of what we looked like, a z with four legs sticking out from under it..

I had a great day anyway and just glad you've got the car ready to go again. Have to get out for a drive out soon. Maybe a Sunday run out to old warden or something?

I'll give you a bell after Wednesday evening and see how you got on..

Yayy, car just went through the MOT so all back on track now. Amazing that an 18 year old car only had an issue with the steering rack bushes. Thanks again for all your help Paul, lets put a plan together for spin out ASAP.

So what are you getting done Graham?

Nothing major mate, but since having my new Alunox 3"exhauste fitted I need new lamba sensors, and a few other little niggles that need doing, cars running better than ever, oh and think I've talked lee into re fitting my air con, at my age keeping cool is better than power to weight ratio's lol

Today I painted the spare Cam belt covers (touched up what Danny did) added decals to the circular bits and will clear it tomorrow at work. Yesterday I Laser cut some press type pieces to temporarily hold the coil connectors down on the left bank due to them all being broken when I bought the car last weekend. 2 are fitted with the rear one not as of yet.

I had a spare couple of hours this morning so thought I'd go for a drive through north wales along the A5 from Bangor to Llangollen, the horseshoe pass then home. It's a real good driving road when there is no slow trucks or buses in front of you. Got some great pictures.

She's a beauty, Tom! :thumbup1:

Have your front fogs had the same sort of treatment as mine, by any chance....?
