Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

I hope you have a great time.

Static shows like JAE are really not my cuppa but in your new roll as NEO you might be in a position to let the organizers know why this club pulled out etc.

Your impressions of the show re numbers of cars, value for money etc etc will be interesting.

I reckon they know something's up. At Beaulieu this year JAE had a little stall and were intercepting people. Odd for a show to promote at another show.

PASSED MOT WOOHOO I'm sooo happy it's been so long.

:w00t:

Chuffed for ya mate.. Well done

I'm happy enough to speak to the organisers and let them know why we pulled out, but as for the impression of the actual event, I'm not expecting anything from it really.

These static events are now based so much on the newer models that us golden oldies get forgotten about.

Nothing on the stalls etc.. Even the show and shine have now emailed me to say I'd not got in. No doubt full of gtr's and the like. In my opinion a show and shine should represent the older vehicles that gives a true representation of the care and attention to detail that an owner has given. Not just rock up in a new or freshly painted car and walk away with the prize with little or no effort.

Regardless of this disappointment, I'm still looking forward to spending 3 nights In a tent and having a good laugh with my mate.

There does seem to be more on this year but for a 4 day event it's still looking like a lot of times going to be spent just sitting around and drinking etc.. Could get messy

I shall report back about the event anyway..

Now that's one report I am looking forward to, I can just see it " so, after the seventh bottle of bud, the litre of Jack n Coke and the 5 tequila slammers, I lost my mate, my tent and my Zed" .......LOL :-)

put my engine back in...

It's paired with my box but not on the mount properly ( would helping one wasn't broken) lol.

So it's new turbo, headers, downpipes, cam covers and all the intake piping. Anything else gone on?

Edited by Alic

Checked the valve stem seals were seated correctly as it was out, new turbos and lines, ams manifolds, ams 3" elbows, bit of paint lol, fixed the oil leaks I hope, got new rad to go on, and all the big pipework and intercoolers, and 450lph fuel pump

Not fitted the 740 injectors yet as I want to test everything for leaks etc, and it won't run once there on

Wish I could come and give you a hand with getting it in properly, but I'm away until the 31st so I expect you'll be finished by then. Giving you a hand is the least I owe you mate ;)

Also be sure to keep me updated when you go back to work on when you have no bookings, Ideally the 3rd would be the best otherwise I would have to attend Tony's meet not in the Zed.

Hey Alic, how's the progress on the auto box going mate?

Just gotta arrange a time with Ash's mechanic to get it fitted, so I'm hoping ill be there fore Tony's. Missed it earlier as I had to get a few things together which didn't arrive in time.

Decats will be going on the same time so at least I'll have something else to look forward to

Today I got around to fitting the right side split downpipe. After that I changed the brake fluid after my braided line install and changed the clutch fluid.

Then went for a test drive! Oh My God! What a difference, spoolup is so much faster. Can't wait to crank up the boost some to take advantage of the catback and smics :-D

preparing my freshly refubished alloys for fitting. Went with 265/35/18 uniroyal rainsport 3's from Camskill

Are they for Zeb Ian?

Be careful Alic. Decats run the risk of the same situation I'm in. It was only because of the Decats being fitted to mine that caused my turbo seals to blow, so word of caution. I'd personally leave the cats in and go for a cat back system instead.. Safer option to retain some back pressure on the seals mate. Ultimately your choice but I'd think long and hard before decatting your car..

Actually I thought that putting in decats made it more obvious that you already had a problem, not that it blows it directly. My turbos aren't even running boost really anyway so I wouldn't miss them that much and I'm willing to make that risk anyway.

Oh I have a huge cat back don't you worry about that...

The cats provide back pressure to the turbos Ali, my turbos had never smoked in the slightest prior to removing the cats and I knew that removing them was a gamble.

If you have new seals then it shouldn't cause a problem for a while but zero back pressure on standard turbos will kill your seals.

It took two days to blow mine. I'd advise against it, but as I said it's ultimately your choice. Given the choice again, I do have left my cats in place. Infact I'm having the cats reinstalled when the new turbos go in and just sticking with a cat back.

There was definitely no issue with my turbos when the cats were in place.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you if you're going to decat mate, it's just cost me nearly £1800 to put right, so I don't think it was really worth the extra 15bhp gained from removal.

Managed to continue the cleaning under my bonnet today, now removed all the unsightly black tar stuff from everywhere possible to reach. Just got to get the Polish out and give it a good buff up and wax then it should look great.

Forgot to take photos so I'll get some later today and post them up.

Gonna get the Maguires polisher out over the weekend and go over the whole car. Looking for that mirror finish, hopefully I'll achieve it before the lacquer wears through

Quick google, its a bit of both.

the decat won't kill the turbo

however the change in back pressure can make a turbo that is past it's best start to smoke on tickover, where the reduced back pressure allows oil to get through the oil seals, you won't know until you fit one though

So it won't kill the oil seals, but as there is less back pressure it can show up weak oil seals and oil can seep out. I think that's correct. My car is quite low mileage tbh and i run less than stock boost anyway so I am sticking to taking a chance.

If Google is the answer you trust Ali, so be it.

I'm just offering you friendly and experienced advice.

Decals can and will lead to turbo seal failure, the only variation of how long your seals will last is dependent on how old your turbo seals are.

My engine has only done 55,000miles when you total up the mileage from the initial kms before import and the miles that's been added since in the UK. I might add that it was meticulously maintained by the one owner it had since 1994 when it was imported and I am the second owner.

The previous owner ran the car as stock on the original stock ecu and running gear so my car was in top shape in the opinion of the mechanic I use.

Any good mechanic will tell you that removing the back pressure from a turbo may not cause immediate damage, but Will lead to premature failure of the seals as they are designed to run on the back pressure provided by the factory installed catalytic converters and exhaust system.

As I've said twice now, and this the third. It's you're car and you have the ultimate choice on what you do with it, I am simply giving you the benefit of my own personal experience which has cost me a lot of cash that is at the moment breaking the bank!

In my opinion, unless you're fitting upgraded turbos with 360 bearings and uprated seals, decatting your car can and will reduce the lifespan of your turbos.

But hey, Google says it's gonna be just fine! Thats cool, just ask Google if they're prepared to pay £1500 for new turbos and a grand for fitting them for you..

I wonder what Mr Google will reply to that?

Anyway, I've done what I know is the right thing to do and tried to give some sound advice to save you money. If I didnt speak up and just let you get on with it, I'd be wrong for not doing so.

Wish you the best of luck with it Ali and hope it all goes well for you..

I did a thing about this some years back with links to turbo experts etc, so il be brief. Decatting will NOT cause the turbo seals to leak. To be fussy the rear seal isn't even really a seal, it's more like a splash guard. In theory you could run a turbo without a rear seal and it not smoke, the reality is though that other factors come to play. Some have found even with brand new turbos fitted, not reconditioned they have displayed the same symptom and blamed the turbo itself. In short the oil that goes in must have a way out without restriction, the restriction could be in the form of a dirty drain line or excessive crank case gas. It may be that the oil is being sucked out. Imagine the seal as a hole in a wall, the engine in the left the exhaust on the right, the pressure must be equal or lower on the engine side than the exhaust, otherwise the oil takes the path of least resistance (the exhaust) don't forget this could be negative in the exhaust, that's were the old cat business comes in.

With a healthy engine, good breather system and healthy turbos there should be no smoke. If there is something's up with one or more. Paul is right, proceeded with caution and the facts. You may get away with it, you may need to make adjustments but simply not running a decat will not damage the turbo all by itself.

I've ran straight pipe on a L28et turbo with over 270000km's on it. It's still running strong. I've ran straight pipes on CA engine with T25s, t28s. Straight pipe on a rb25det turbo. Never has anything failed. The only turbo failure I've had was a t25 with a stock exhaust :-))

Thank you. There is not much more to see being a swb.. I am currently waiting to see if Mondo can match the leather as I need some bits making... I cannot take credit for the interior leather as it was like it when I bought it.. it just wasn't completed so I now have the task of finishing the job

I bought a mint car too... But I had to take it to another level by finessing the details with incremental changes to the look and performance.
