No offense intended. I just looked at the picture and thought it looked awful..

I know you are young and working on a limited budget etc but home chopped and bent bits of mild steel screwed on to any engine bay are never IMO going to look good on any car.

Did you see anything similar on the great selection of engine bays on show at Coventry?

Why not remove and refurbish the components back to OEM or better visual condition and paint the engine bay in glossy colour to match the outside of the shell.

I didnt open my engine bay cos mine is untidy and frequently dusty I have a piece of carbon fibre sheet in the middle of my slam panel but its not to hide anything merely to force alll the incoming air from the bumper to go thru the rad not over it.Its held on with tie wraps which contrast with the pop rivets holding by broken/repaired fan shroud in place!!:scared:

I wouldn't do it doesn't look good at all if you want the clean look then do all the delets that just looks nasty and you lost the curves of the engine bay

Here's the thing, I would much prefer something like dougal's setup, really clean and neat:

But really I do not want to delete everything as the HICAS, cruise control, AC are all important features of the car, and useful too. Its really just to cover up the exposed wiring and pipes that i deem take away from the aesthetics of the bay.

 

Regarding cooling, does the hicas solenoid really need airflow? On the other side is just the fusebox and its not in the way of cooling the engine, so does airflow really matter?

The two requirements are not easily mutual. Simple and show tidy and original and feature loaded don't go hand in hand, not without extensive work. You COULD relocate the hicas rather than delete, same will all the rest but it will require some planning and customisation.

Im not a fan of even the shiney stainless covers Ali i agree with Pete refurbing eveything to freshen it up would be my advise but as Gaz said its your car mate you go your way but be prepared for "feedback" at shows constructive or otherwise. Your never going to please everyone at the Wollaton Park show I heard someone say Zeb was "ugly" which was hard to take having looked at his girfriend but hey its his opinion.

lol who said shiny, I hate the goody chrome engine bays (no offense peeps), I would probably scratch and dent it to bits so it would look horrible. I havent decided but probably a satin black or metallic black so it doesn't stand out too much.

Well today I broke the O/S/R calliper hard pipe...... must have cracked it refitting.... brake fluid all over the driveway when I pressed the brake pedal with engine running.... So No MOT today!

I made up a replacement one and fitted it...... but now brake pedal goes to the floor and feels spongey..... something not right....

No air in system after re-bleeding system..... but still feels worse than before the new fluid and hoses......

I don't think I will be making beaulieu after all.......

Did the resivoir run dry Russ? If it did it's probably air in the master.

 

Hi Stephen, no was a fair amount still in the reservoir..... refilled from about 1/4 of the way down.... fitted new pipe and bled okay....

Pedal only went to the floor after starting the engine.... even now with engine off it is hard and works..... soon as you start her it is literally on the floor....

I did all 4 corners and both ABS nipples before the hard pipe split...... after I replaced the pipe I have done it once..... but going to remove the wheels yet again and re-bleed it all again tomorrow....

I wonder where the air is hiding?..... I might retry the abs ones again tonight.....

 

EDIT:-........ I am a bloody idiot....... just realised I bled all 4 corners with speed bleeders installed..... But bled the abs unit as if I had fitted them there as well...... So been sucking in air.....

Since I've always hated how messy these engine bays are, and not wanting to delete hicas etc. I am making covers for them, make them from 1mm steel I guess? Thoughts?

My sister has given me tickets for the weekend with a car pass to The Silverstone Classic, on the Sporting Bears stand. Well wasn't expecting that, car is not ready for a show yet, so spent the last 2 days with the help of my friend, bringing my paintwork back to life. I do not need a re-spray now, was amazed how well it came out, has a real sparkle in the colour. Suspension will have to wait now no enough time.

Had to make an effort not to let the club down.

Nearly finished.. only put wings and bumper on loosely so excuse panel gaps lol

 

That's moved on leaps and bounds since last week mate.

Interior is back in too. Tidied up wiring and started to fit the wings properly.... then I need to start it GULP!

When you planning on firing it? Not that I've got a minute to myself over the next few days. At this rate il be turning up Sunday with a dirty car haha.
