  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Took my new purchase down to Jim at PowerZed for the once over, to be fair the car is a testament to the previous owner, very good condition with only a few minor things that need some attention. PCV hose was replaced, MAF was diagnosed as being faulty (looking to buy a new one soon), and the rumble from the rear end is the prop or wheels need balancing (taking the car for the wheels to be checked first next weekend).

Up on the lift for a look over

All in all a good day, drive down was great, drive back on a Friday with stop start traffic....not so much..... but you can't have everything!

Kind regards

Started mocking up a new shroud for the intercooler,

And also did the speaker covers in nice new fabric (with crappy photos)

One thing is fair enough. The rest it did get a bit akward because it's petty. Bear in mind the same place passed it last year with no advisories.

Rear fog and washer jets were the squabble.

Indicator tell inoperative, offside. (Bulb, fixed)

Windscreen washer provides insufficient water.(partially blocked nozzle, fixed)

Rear fog switch missing(no, he just failed to find it)

Rear fog lamp missing(wired to tail lights, never in the history of the car failed)

Brake caliper carrier locking component missing.(requires x4 m12 nylocks to satisfy him. Why I don't know the bracket using the same fastening as stock.)

When I queried the response was the guy who did it last year no longer works here, some of his tests were slipping a touch. I think they must of had a ticking off recently. I even got 1 advisory this year;

"Exhaust noisey"

'Oh do you think I have an exhaust leak? Or do you think that 3" system with cat deletes it just to look nice...'

Just rolled her out for a bit of sun and a quick look over. Found a faulty headlight bulb so need to sort that now...[emoji19]

You're becoming quite the pro at this dipping lark:thumbup: Well done:thumbup1: I'm going to have to look into this, do you have a link for the materials?

There's quite a few places to get the supplies but the best I've found so far are these two..

http://www.Hydrographicswarehouse.co.uk

And

http://www.dipthis.co.uk

All you basically need is the film of your choice and the activator spray. They do clearcoat designed for the film but the normal automotive clearcoat lacquer is fine and to be honest it's probably the same stuff in a different can anyway!

Other than a good sized container and a thermometer that's about it.

I've found that keeping the water temperature at the right level is quite easy as the larger volume of water holds its temperature for plenty long enough to dip a few parts.

If you plan on dipping a lot or doing it in winter months then a decent fish tank heater will work.

I've had a good look at a pro set up and it's fairly basic, simply consisting of a large tank with basically a fish tank filter system which cleans the tank for you, a water heater and a temperature control.

As long as your water temp is around 28-30 degrees and you've taken the time to practice a bit and get to know the perfect dipping stage, then being a pro dipper really isn't that difficult..

Give it a go Richie, it's certainly a whole lot cheaper than getting it done.. Results may not be as perfect as a pro job, but that'll be down to you to get it right..

The parts I've dipped so far would have cost me in excess of £175 and it's cost me £40 with still enough materials left to do more. Can't really argue with that can you?

Did you use the clear carbon weave to work with the red?

Dip this seems cheaper but the other one has really nice designs.

The carbon comes in a couple of types, the full weaves are usually solid but the others are mostly clear and will show the Base colour through it.

If you look at the prices on both sites though, you'll notice that dip this prices are per metre and also of the films are 50cm width.

Hydrographic warehouse sells in 5 metre volumes as a minimum and most of their film is 100cm width so prices aren't that much different to be honest.

I understand that, but if you want just a few pieces dipped, and want to try a variety of designs, a minimum of 5would be less than ideal tbh.

Interior cleaning this afternoon. Having been untouched for the past 6 years the interior was covered in a fair amount of cobwebs and mold !

IMG_20160515_153339.jpg

Killed the mold with a white Vinegar solution spray, then cleaned up with a gentle soap using a toothbrush to get right into the short pile Alcantara cloth.

Left to dry in the sun.

What you need to take in to account though Alic is that failures do happen.. The fan shroud I'm trying to dip today is being a little s#@t! Complex shapes particularly on large parts are an effin nightmare tbh.. So if you are thinking of giving it a go, be prepared to fail a few times mate, it's gonna happen believe me!

I'm on the third attempt in about half hour once I've finished cleaning the last one off with acetone.

Critical timing and angle of the push through the dip are hard to master in an environment that really isn't perfect for something so fiddly.

My advice is if you need a metre to do your parts, buy at least 2!
