I was travelling round the M25 yesterday (junction 29 - 6) when I noticed there was about 10 small pylon like things with cameras on top of them (about 10metres high, and about 200yrds distance between each one). Are these things those bastard speed cameras which work out your average speed and don't flash. I bloody hope they weren't otherwise me and the the TT quattro I was toying with are gonna be banned!!

 

I know the police were installing them but I didn't know they were there. Doh!!!!

 

Anyone know??

If you're describing the ones I think then they are traffic monitorinig only. Let's hope so !

I thought that they could have been traffic monitoring cameras, but aren't they the blue ones?? These ones seemed an exact distance away from each other??

I've actually found out since that the average speed cameras jobbies which works out average speeds of cars over a distance (like the ones just installed on the M25), are going into operation as of the 12th June. So come on, we've got a couple of weeks to thrash the hell out the motors!!!!

There are some coming on line as from the 1st June on some junctions so be careful. As I tank down the M25 on a twice daily occurrence this is a real pain as now I have to get up even earlier in order to obey the speed limit and still get to work by 6am.

OI OI FOZZY - THE CAMERAS THAT WORK OUT THE AVERAGE SPEED HAD 4 OR 5 SMALL CYLINDERS ROUND THEM ( THEY LOOK A BIT LIKE A GATTLING GUN ) AND ARE PLACE IN THE CENTRE OF THE ROAD BETWEEN THE 2 CARRIDGEWAYS (IN NOTTINGHAM ANYWAY)

Ah relief, thank God for that Amen! You're right, I saw them when they first reared their ugly heads on the M5 last year. Look like something Darth Vader would have used to take pictures of his Tie Fighter with!

 

The other cameras are just traffic monitoring cams. I'm sure!
