Whilst doing a routine assessment for a new owner last week we came across the wheel and tyre combo below, with a low ride hight and body kit fitted the wheel and tyre that was visable in normal use appeared just fine, in fact the tyre tread was very good.

However whilst underneath the car we could see the inside wall was a very different affair, take a look and imagine the outcome of a long sustained motorway journey with this fitted to your zed, makes me shudder! what though makes me absolutely furious is the 12 months MOT that came with the car from 2 weeks earlier.....used car dealers!! and that was the tip of the problems.

Worth checking the inner walls of your tyres periodically to be sure.

Damaged steel belt or a breakdown of ply within tyre sidewall. Probably pothole damage.

I'd most likey say that as well.....

.....and whilst they are cheapo tyres, it can just as easily happen to expensive ones. I had the same thing to a Goodyear Asymetric on my ZX - when I bought new wheels, I had intended to swap the tyres over from my old wheels; seeing as I had only bought the tyres new myself a year earlier and (supposedly) knew they were OK.....

.....and they looked fine when they came off the old rims; but as soon as one was inflated on a new rim, the scary truth was revealed!! The tyre fitter said that it most likely had sustained pot hole damage.

Good spot there Jeff - although I'd guess that as those tyres are directional (as opposed to "inside/outside"), then the dealer probably knew one was FUBAR'd and popped it on the car knowing that it would not be noticed if the damage was on the inside....:death:

Richard:sad:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I went through quite a few tyres on my old wheels because of this. It was caused by me running wit low pressure in the tyres as the wheels were leaking air a lot. Since changing the wheels I have not had the problem.

It is scary how quickly they can develop and how badly it effects the balance of the car and its control, especially at speed.

**update pics**

Inside view of the tyre, the inner wall had completely degraded and the rubber that had shed off is very clear to see.

Moral of the story is check the whole of your tyres not just the outside bit.
