Vibration at 40mph

Getting vibration at 40mph. I spent this morning changing the prop shaft over. I got a prop from a member a few weeks ago. I took it to a prop specialist and they put it on there machine and they said it was good and the bearing was good.

Put it on the car and still getting vibration at 40.

Can anyone suggest what else it could be because its doing my head in.

I also have got a problem with vibration when going over 40 mph. (1991 Import 300zx TT Manual)

I've been looking to see what it could be on the forum and TBH this post sounds exactly the same as my problem, its only started happening since i took my front wheels off to clean up suspension, this is making me thing it must be the spigot rings as i have aftermarket wheels and this is the first time ive removed them.

if it was something relating to the prop shaft would this happen over a period of time to become more noticeable or is it something that just happens?

Notes on Problem:

Major vibration over 40 getting worse as speed increases

still happens with clutch is disengaged

the vibration changes with the speed of the car not the revs of the engine.

only front wheels have been removed since problem started

5mm spacers were fitted on front (only glanced at one of them on one side

just some notes incase anyone has any advice or tips to give. i didn't examine or check any of the spacers/spigot rings when refitting the wheels as was unaware of spigot rings till i read this post; and just forgot to look at spacers.

  • 4 weeks later...

Having same problem with my 91 jspec n/a baby, had wheels balanced and 3 tyres changed as tread was perished on new looking tyres, car had been standing still for over 12 months. So I should look at gearbox mount (auto) before shelling out for new one piece prop. I have standard wheels so should I look at spigot rings and would they be there with standard rims

I dont'd think you get spigot rings with the standard wheels mate. The whole purpose of the rings are for aftermarket wheels

Best thing to do mate start with the obvious, had the same problem few months back and this must be one of the cheapest fix i've done. Something so simple and yet can make so much of a difference
