fair play to that man , surely he can put his charges against the prosecution . lets hope so considering we are all innocent until proven guilty.

at the end of the day though its a total waste of tax payers money

How come Qatada can get hundreds of thousands in legal aid to fight extradition, but a mere motorist cant get diddly, the legal system in this country is as bad as the benefit system, totally outdated and certainly not equal in any form.

because the motorist is the easiest target the government can aim at for all its financial worries!!

**** the motorist its a loose loose situation for them!

this country is for the toffs, illegal immigrants and dole scroungers!

how come it tuck 11 months for someone or him self to work out the speed & distance from the photos he would of had them from the first speeding letter

if that as done from the first off .. he wouldn't of cost him a penny or even the legal system

That's kinda what I was thinking......

......and dare I say it for fear of being unpopular - but does anyone else think that 18mph sounds far too slow to be travelling at? Sure, he may have been in the process of pulling away or decellerating for a junction/hazard/other reason - but if he was just pootling along at 18mph, then in my book he could well have been nicked for causing an obstruction!!! If it's safe to be doing 30 in a 30 zone, then do 30 FFS and get out of everyone else's way.....:winkiss:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

the only one thing that would throw the speed off are the line spacing .... if these are not Spot on to size this 18mph could of been more

i'm sure the line markers are not to size or "calibrated"

  • Author

Wow !

Gonna bow out now.

Yes the lines are calibrated, otherwise they wouldnt be legal.

11 months is nothing ! Try a death by careless driving charge. Takes much longer, I know. They were long, coz they were in the wrong.

18mph ? We have a 30 mph camera, just after the local fish and chip shop and folks speed along it constantly. Unless you are just out the carpark for the chippy ?

Barely leaving second gear then ? But if the cameras are wrong, you are guilty ? yes ? no ? This guy went out to prove his innocence, against the odds.

And good on him for sticking to his guns, if he knew he was innocent then why should he accept the penalty...........I do think most of us would just accept that we were probably in the wrong though, for me I'm just glad I aint triggered one of the one eyed monsters already!

Remember that 30is a limit and not a target

Richards right though dave, you can and imo should more regualrly be charged forobstruction. Esp doing 30/40 on a national speed limit road.

What ever I said in my previous post, I would still fight it if I knew I was innocent. It's the principle after all..... Although why he ended up out of pocket is another question; unless things have changed in recent years, the AA and RAC both used to offer free legal representation for their members in most motoring offence cases (drink driving may be excluded - for good reason). Not to mention many house insurance policies offer some kind of legal assistance - again motoring cases might be questionable - but I'd always explore these avenues before spunking my own cash with little chance of recovery....

Yup, I know; as is any speed limit - and I think my comments added reasonable qualification to my statement Dave.....!!

.....And I always acknowledge there are many circumstances as to why it's necessary to drive under the speed limit - weather, traffic conditions etc etc. But in general, in normal, safe conditions 18mph is too slow. Thing is, there are many traffic hold ups nowadays - and if we're honest it's unlikely to get better!! But in my own experience, there are those drivers who exacerbate congestion; by driving too slowly when the prevailing conditions are good; by not moving off quickly enough at green traffic ligts or roundabouts; or as Mr Bolt says, crawling along at 30/40 on [and I state here - good, straight, clear and safe] national speed limit roads. Hell if the world did 40 everywhere it would stop!!!

So, selfish as it may seem, if someone is not a safe, confident and proficient driver - or if someone has a thing about saving fuel/the environment etc; hence cannot drive in accordance with the prevailing conditions and surrounding traffic flow - I'm sorry, they should get the bus!!! And as for those driving instructors who take learner drivers through industrial estates at 5pm.... with their charge pootling along for ages at 15mph in a 40mph zone whilst the whole of Aylesbury is trying to get home from work - what are you thinking!!!! I fully appreciate we were all learners once, but really, there is a time and a place? And whilst I always extend space and courtesy to learner drivers - is it too much to ask the instructor to exercise a little common sense when taking lessons at rush hour?

LOL; I'm not some mad idiot suffering from road rage - far from it - it's just that I believe the traffic could flow much more freely if one or two people could pull their head from their arse; concentrate on their driving; looked out for the [majority of] other road users and did not obstruct the natural movement of vehicles on our already congested roads!!!

Well I would piss you off because at the min I only do 40 in a 60 around here. Granted it about 5.30am and I am the only car on the road, but I just like to chill and enjoy the drive. Instead of driving like a nutter because I'm going to be late . There is nothing wrong with setting off 5 min sooner.

As for learner drivers in rush hour how else are they going to learn. No point in driving with no cars on the road then passing thee test and saying good luck. They would just freaze and cause more accidents imo

No you wouldn't - as I'd just overtake you mate....:winkiss:

What does piss me off though is when I have to drive a long way on single carriageway roads (not just a few miles - as whether you do 40 or 60 is makes little difference) and, when I safely overtake, the b@stard flashes/hoots etc etc.... If they want to go 40 and I 60, so what? Best be happy that I have passed and gone on my merry way!!

And getting back to the learner situation - I agree with you Dave. But if the learner is not up to doing more than 15mph, perhaps it's better to wait until they are more comfortable before unleashing them on a busy area in rush hour!! In the words of Mr Spock (and I'm not a nerdy Trekkie BTW), the needs of the majority outweigh the needs of the few - or the one in this case; who should look in their rear view mirror to see the immense trail of cars in their wake.....

Not if I drive like Schumacher and make my car super wide:lol:

Tbh I normally pull over if I have a car behind me in the morning. Except for a impreza with a massive exhaust I make him wait and he just let's off his dump valve all the time its quite funny. The other day I was behind him in the 206 and I stuck to his bumper like glue, he didn't like that either

Heh heh - I'd do the same matey. On both counts!!!

You know, the annoying thing about my experience of people flashing me when I overtake them, is that when I am driving Julia's Rav-4, no-one gives a shit..... I only get flashed when I'm in the ZX or the Merc???

Hey ho.......:confused1:

He stuck to his principles and proved his case; so good on him - and I daresay I'd do the same if it happened to me......

......it's so easy to shut up and take the fine now; especially as most NIPs do not actually have a section to deny you were speeding in the first place!! I have not personally had one; but I see the NIPs addressed to my company in respect of works vehicles - and they all just have boxes for naming the drivers or accepting the fixed penalty - there's nowhere for you to say, "actually no, I was driving within the speed limit, so I am not admitting guilt!!"

It all boils down to money ? Easy target us motorists as most of us actually NEED our vehicles, ie. work etc.

As the Floyd song goes;

Money, is the root of all evil so they say,

But theres no surprise they aint giving none away !
