should be okay, as the dvla database is updated instantly, and shows that tax has been bought before the expiry date. Most plod cars are fitted with anpr (automated number plate recognition) plod wont stop as it will show as taxed, on the other side a ditsy traffic warden might try and go down the route of failure to display a valid tax disc, but if did a ticket argue the toss and it will show as taxed.

You'll be fine, the disc itself is more of a receipt nowadays that its been paid.

It's all online.

i did hear some time back that they were going to give up on displaying tax discs as it saves paper, bit like mots these days, they are just printed on a4 paper now and they are only really a reciept to keep the driver happy

My understanding is if you purchase the tax renewal online before the existing one runs out you have 5 days grace to allow for delivery. However if you purchase after expiry e.g. The 1st or 2nd you no longer get 5 dys grace and must wait until the disc arrives.

You still have to display it. If you don't you won't get a penalty from the dvla etc but a nasty policeman could give a £60 fine for not displaying it.

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

As long as its paid for and done online you are fine. Its traffic wardens would be the problem as the rest lads say for not displaying, if that happened then you contest it. The police ANPR wont pick you up for non display. They are connected to dvla anyway for your mot and insurance. So you are kool. Norm arrive in less than 5 days m8. I do it on line all the time.

two words mate...drive it. Your car IS licenced and soon there doin away with paper in the window anyway

There are 2 fines ... one for not having it and one for not displaying ... You are right ... I was done for 60£ when my tax disk was in the post. The note on the windscreen with reference number didn`t helped :)

As said mate, the charge is "Failure to display" regardless if you have one or not. I doubt you'll be stopped by traffic police as they check the details via computer and it will say it's taxed. Not the same for a stop though, you will more than likely get done for not having it on display.

thanks for the reply, its shells car so if she gets fined then tough shit she should have sorted it out quicker instead of leaving everything upto me at the last minute

Yeah you will be fine. We drove becks beemer for 2 weeks then remembered. We even went along the motor ways and cop cars and traffic vans and never got pulled lol.

Exactly...!

I know there is still some small print that says the registered keeper "can be" fined for non-display of the disc, I doubt they bother now TBH. Roadside recognition cameras and PC Plod can see at an instant that a car is taxed and legal so the actual disc is pretty obsolete nowadays.

You've paid up - and have your reference number and payment receipt so don't worry about the actual disc not being on the car. Hell my company runs a fleet of 20 vehicles and whilst we always tax online - and post the disc out to the drivers living in far flung corners of the country - a lot of them "lose" the disc before putting it in their car/van and no-one has been pulled for not showing the disc. Some of the guys drive 50k miles a year so there would have been ample opportunity to be seen with an expired disc; LOL!!

Anyway you still have a 5 day period of grace - and that applies to paying for the RFL too as it is back-dated to the start of the month anyway....

Richard:cool3:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I got a £60 fine a while back because my tax disc holder had fell off the windscreen. Even they they knew it was taxed they said I still need it displayed

In all honesty I've always let mine lapse and stumped up 2/3 weeks into the new month to have the money in my account ;-)

If stopped i'd play on the fact that you can't take a payment holiday anymore (Not like i used to at 17/18 and miss a month ;-P ) and it's all online now and you just forgot - it does happen. It's a civil offence against the crown anyway, not a criminal one, not like not having an MOT because it invalidates your insurance...

Drive it. you've been as law abiding as possible, and many people go on holiday, come back to no tax, and do the same...
