Just had the worst day ever..

Was playing indoor cricket last night and a ball got batted straight in my face (should never take your eye off the ball I know!)

Anyway, black eye straight away and thought it'll be best to get checked out in a&e and turns out my eye socket is fractured and eyeball is shagged. Been to 3 hospitals today and feel better after finding out that nothing's terminal but gonna be a good 6 weeks recovery to start with :-(

Worst injury I've ever had and it wakes you up to how fragile us human mortals are.

Anyone else had a wake up call?

I cut my finger working on my mates Landrover yesterday - gave me a wakeup call not to work on crap like that again!!

Ouchy!! Lots of ice packs, ibuprofen & other stronger pain relief & the suggestion that you look for an alternative game to play?! Dominos? No one ever got hurt doing that lol!

Wishing you a speedy recovery

Thanks for the comments guys. I will bring myself to throw a pic up in due course but feeling to sorry for myself to take one just yet!

I feel for you mate and hope your eye is alright. Are you going to be able to work once the swelling goes down?

Thanks, once my eye is focusing properly again I'm gonna go back. Cos of the fracture I can't run or blow my nose for a while. So much aggro. Not sure what my customers will think of a black eye tho!

Yep, eyes are extremely fragile mate and can easily be taken for granted. Back in 2006 the back of my eye was destroyed in an incident overseas, it's now held together with some sort of silicone contraption and laser fusion, the incident resulted in me going blind in my right eye. Then after two years of getting very confused and having memory problems etc, I was diagnosed with having a traumatic brain injury from the same incident, which ultimately ended my career.

Silver lining is I get to spend a lot more time with my family.

Make sure that you get checked over by an opthamologist as soon as the swelling go's down just to be on the safe side mate

Didn't know that mate, hope your OK now. And your right, eye's are very fragile things and need to be looked after. One of mate's got a rocket (firework) in his eye a few years back and it's cost him his career too.

Ouchies, play cricket myself but fortunately never taken one in the face. Hurts enough when it lands on your thigh!

Get well soon matey

Thanks for the comments and well wishing... It brings it home when somet like this happens to yourself and when you hear brave stories like jap slappers (thanks for the story and glad you're positive)... Everyone takes things for granted but it soon brings it home.

Been for a secondary eye check today and thankfully my sight and movement isn't damaged. I've learned that the coloured part of your eye is a muscle which is bleeding(?) from the whack and the back of my eye is bruised but fortunately doesn't need lazering and should heal on its own. Just got a cocktail of drops to reduce pressure and keep my pupil dilated to stop the coloured bit from scarring.

I met Chris Moon a month or so ago and as much as I'm not a fan of motivational speaking, he certainly gives you food for thought and ultimately whatever happens, look for the best in the situation.

This was about an hour after it happened before we knew the extent of it...

It's currently looking a bit less swollen now but a slightly darker colour.

Felt like dying in that pic but my mate insisted on taking it!

Jeezo matey, that does look sore !

I can only imagine how discoloured thats gonna be for a few days, even longer !

As previously stated, hope there is no lasting damage ?

Cheers for the pic, didnt think you would post ! Was gonna say awesome, but thats not what I mean ?

Take care mate. Try not to get any dust or dirt in it as an infection would be right painfull.
