Is it just mine or are all the lights that Nissan fitted on the 300ZX crap?

Anyway, sick of not being able to see at night when reversing I decided to do something about it today

First of all I used four x 3 Watt white LEDs and put two each side. I used some resistors I had lying around (rather than buying some wirewound ones) I used 22 ohm resistors, six in parallel then another six in parallel to give a total resistance of about 8 ohms. They dissipate quite a bit of heat! I would suggest if anyone wants to build a similar circuit you just by a couple of power resistors instead

The pics tell the story well.... so here goes. The little bits of wire sticking out from each end of the veroboard are purely there to physically mount it in the reversing light enclosure

The one nearest the camera is the top/fog and you can see the leds sit right up to the lens as the board is clearly proud and just to secure I put just a few blobs of hot glue here and there, I did put some black tape around to stop bleed but I removed this to photo. This is the chamber that the black plastic needs removing, it will not fit under or in otherwise.

The reverse pcb does fit flush or better and the leds sit slightly away from the panel lens, this board needs less securing.

The OEM bulb chambers are not used.

The leds are alll visible when off and are certainly all visible when on.

Ahh I see - the zedwizz uses multiple LEDs rather than a few high powered ones

cheers for the heads-up on that Andy

I am now waiting for these 10W red LEDs - I think I can use them with a diffuser mounted further up the reverse light enclosure, as they will have a mega light output. I'm trying to get something that can not be seen (through the lens) until it is on.

Shame they take so long from Hong Kong but it's a fun project so worth the wait to test this idea. Will be interesting to see what we get once finished prototyping
