Need another runabout. The Lancer is fab, cannot fault it but its our only car and its difficult when we're both on placement and need to get to places when we're sharing. Am thinking of going to have a look at this later:

http://www.tradecarsnortheast.co.uk/used-cars/volkswagen-golf-1-6-se-2dr-thornaby-201301497338090

I test drove a Golf last year and liked it, it felt pretty solid and safe, but I've never owned German before.

Anything I ought to know?

I said to Marc before Christmas that I wanted a cabby for my 40th lol

I would usually agree but my Zed and my Lexus were both expensive when new cars and cheap second hand and they were awesome! Not looking for exciting yet its just dreary looking for another boring car lol!

The Lancer is a great daily driver but we can't afford a second car on finance so a medium sized to big reliable second car is on the list - but it HAS to be Jap, or at a push, German. ITs so time consuming! Trying to write an assignment and surf for cars, lol

buy my range rover with a 2" lift and big wheels and you can put your sig pic into practice:rofl:

Ha!! Is it less than a grand?!!

Range Rover and reliability do not go hand in hand believe me I have owned the Classic and the P38... love them to bits though!

I would avoid an Almera personally unless it is a good condition N15.... the N16s rust on front xmember and the 1.5 engine is reliable but terrible fuel economy!

A Rangey would be far too big for this purpose anyway, although I'm sure they are fun. As much as I love the idea of going off-roading, I rarely get the chance to spend time with my family these days let alone do fun stuff!

I'm not a fan of the Almera if I'm honest, and if the fuel economy is rubbish I'd be better off getting another GS lol! Or an IS200, had a great one of those and it wasn't bad on fuel economy for a 2l and it was a lovely car, nice to drive. Not many about at the moment tho.

I'll find sommat eventually, just annoying that I can't even go grocery shopping or to the gym if Marc has the car, and vice versa, and when I start placement again soon it'll be a bigger pain in the ass!

LOL i never meant it "to buy"..P38,s will ruin your day but the classics you cant really be serious over relibility issues, there the Daddy of the era they were built in as long as you keep with the 3.5 not the 3.9,s.

Ha, well if you're offering a lend....!

Well if anyone feels like looking for Jap cars for me in the Middlesbrough area, within 30 mile radius, just coz they're bored, up to about £1300, they're very welcome :D

Toyota corolla is what you need. Bought my mum one. Never missed a beat and it's actually quite nippy. ( it's a 1.6 ). Don't suppose you can afford a t sport

Ha!! I had one 2 years ago! It was ok, one owner from new, fsh, etc, clutch started to go so I got shot, but it saw me through that REALLY bad winter we had with loads of snow, then I got my Glanza. Ahhh Roo, you have no idea how many cars this girl has been through, if it had been men, I'd be called the forum tart lol!

Rich was right to take the piss the other day!

I'm gonna perhaps try to make it through the next couple of weeks without a car, and search for another Lexus IS200. I LOVED that car, would definitely have another, and we wouldn't have to argue over who got to drive the crap one to work lol!!

Simple rule...

buy an expensive when new car cheap and it will bite you in the arse...Your tastes and wants have to match your pockets for a good exciting car.;)

Very true Brian - just like a 300zx........

.....but yes; any high end car that reaches 10 years old plus still comes with high end running costs, even if the purchase price is peanuts now.

If you want a reliable car that is cheap you will not get any better than a K11 Nissan Micra....................!

I could concur there. Julia bought one brand new back in 1996 - a 1.0 Hollywood in girly blue - and it only sipped petrol. Plus (and to this day no-one believes me but my best mate will corroborate it) he and I were at the NEC visiting the classic car show back in 1998 when his wife's father was rushed to hospital having suffered a heart attack. So we left (in the Micra) in a hurry and covered the journey to my house in an hour!!!

He told his mrs how we got back so quickly and she was not surprised; assuming we were in my (then) Supra. Then he dropped the bomb-shell that we did it in a 1.0 Micra and she just laughed in disbelief. Julia believed me though - but I still got a b0ll0king for thrashing her car!!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ha, I did Bristol to Middlesbrough in just over 3 hours once in my Clio (it was new, years ago tho), but I just thrashed it all the way up (my excuse was I was staying ahead of the weather front that was bringing snow lol)

Micras are fab little cars, I even had one of the newer ones as a courtesy car once when Wessex crappy garages messed up my order for said brand new Clio, they gave me the 1.6 sport, I had great fun caning it to Brighton and back lol! But alas my hubby is far too tall and I am buggered if I am the one who always has to drive the bean tin lol!! And I prefer big ones!

Excluding your mates ticker bit Richard that is a great and amusing little story...LOL@"thrashing her car"

if your looking for a comfortable cheap to run nice to drive second car then get a 1.6 focus, got mine for about £470ish (51 plate) and its the best driving car ive ever had not loads of power but gets me about very comfortably, i love driving it and i get 60 miles on a tenner's worth of petrol

Yeah - it was funny at the time too mate!! We were flying down the M40 past BMs and Jags etc; their drivers looking at us in sheer disbelief that a poxy 1.0 Micra was steaming past......

.......of course, they could have just dabbed their accelerators and put a stop to it, but I guess the laughter and shock prevented that!! If I had needed to stop in a hurry though it might not have been so funny.......

yes yourself and Sir Charles are correct in naming the Micra as a great car...ex-wives and my daughter and years ago even my dear old mother have owned one and they are amazing cars for being reliable and economic
