Hey guys

As im currently pretty crippled following a recent knee surgery ive decided to take the time to sort the out the little things that bug me on the zed.

First and foremost is the position of the pedals, especially the brake pedal

As you can see the brake pedal is right over towards the accelerator pedal, and with the combination of my size 12 feet, it makes any sort of heel and toe impossible. Ive had the car for 5 years now and im kinda used to it, but the misses really struggles with it.

Ive had a look underneath the dash at the top of where the pedal mounts to the servo and I cannot see any obvious adjustment to move it back over. The pedal arm doesnt look like its been bent as there are no obvious signs of stress in the black paint of the pedal arm

Has anyone come across this before and is there anyway i can move the pedal to a more central position without having the remove the pedal arm and bend it.

Cheers

Nick

If they have bent it that far, they must have had TINY feet!

Looking at it, i reckon the accelerator pedal has been bent aswell

Has any one got a similar pic that I can compare it to, so I have an idea mainly on the shape of the pedal arms (for when i decide to bend it back into position)

Cheers

just really going by the peddle pads .. they should all be horizontal and vertical

and like u all so pointed out the accelerator isnt right too ... i would just bend them back in to some form of line at least so the pad lines .. align up correctly looking at them

taking offset pedals to the next level!

I would be worried about bending them back, pick up replacements from a breaker. Wouldn't want the brake pedal to snap when you jump on it in an emergency

PS is your firewall in dented where the pedals are attached?

I'm surprised that you managed to get the car through a MOT with that. I always thought that the pedals have to have a minimum gap of 5cm between each pedal by law.

mmm, good point. Nope no signs of any denting. I thought it might just have pivoted on a mount or something, but like i said i cant see of any means of adjustment

i would say its been like that since it was imported, and someone on this forum owned it before me.

its odd what you get used to after so long

There's backwards and forwards adjustment via the brake booster but no side to adjustment mate. That's been bent that way. Did your zed used to be an auto?

Nope, always been a manwell

Can't think of a single reason why it would be like that then. I was thinking that if it had been converted, the person that did it got fed up trying to put the pedal on and bent it to make it easier..lol

The only ways that I can think that would make it like that are; The actual pedal shaft has been bent or the holes through the firewall have been elongated to allow the whole assembly to be twisted.

Is there any play in the pedal?

TBH im pretty sure its been bent over to suit someone with small feet to do heel and toe (it is a jap import after all), but its always been a manual, manual turbos came off it during its rebuild.

No play in the pedals, the shaft it links onto is straight as an arrow. Infact it looks like there has been no interference with anything on the pedal box at all, just that the pedals are pissed

Think your going to have to bite the bullet and replace it for a good pedal box mate. Zedworld should be able to sort you out with a s/h one.

Why would i need to change the whole pedal box for the sake on a bent pedal, when there is nothing to suggest that anything else has been interfered with??

How else do you suggest fixing it then? By pedal box I mean the pedal and bracket assembly that holds it onto the booster.

  • Author

Remove the pedal arm from the box and replace just the pedal. Its only held on with one bolt and a couple of locking pins

And a return spring and clevis pin. The point I was trying to make is that you will find it very hard to get hold of just the pedal and if you do it will probably cost just as much as a s/h pedal box would. It's also easier just unbolting the old and bolting a new one than it is to change the pedal only.

Just trying to help.

aaaaah, thought you were implying that if the pedal was bent the whole thing is shagged, which obv doesnt appear to be the case

Looks like ill have to do the usual zed acrobatics to get under the dash and see how it comes out (the pedal box that is)

aah, no.

It's held on by 4 nuts to the booster and a bolt right at the top of the hinge bracket. Plus the clevis pin of course.. It's a pig of a job though, i'm afraid.

Can someone take a pic of their pedals for me just so I have something to compare it to?
