Just wondered if anyone had a rough idea on what my car was worth in it's present condition...

It's a 1992 UK 300ZX Twin Turbo in Red with 146K on the clock, modified with a +70BHP EEPROM/boost increase/air filter, nice alloys, aftermarket rear lights. MOT is 13th April next year.

It's had some rust issues in the past but seems they've all been addressed (extensive service history, lots at Zed World) although there's the odd rust bubble here and there. The paint is faded, quite badly in places, but I know it can easily be touched up/restored with t-cut and elbow grease - already started doing one or two patches; time and the weather is my enemy.

The car has the common 'stumble/hesitation' issue although only seems to do this when cold for a few minutes then it's fine; runs sweet as a nut. Slightly crunchy going in and out of 4th but fine if you double de-clutch; otherwise, mechanically sound. Air con needs a new compressor but have it covered under warranty at Zed World - they're a bit far from me so haven't got round to replacing.

How much do you think she's worth?

And if I sorted the stumble issue, air compresser (and re-gas) and spruce up the paintwork, how much then?

Mate i got no problems with you finding out how much your car is worth (even though you could check ebay / piston heads / auto trader and compare) but you are not allowed to sell on the forum unless you are a subscribed member.

Look at how much you paid for it 3 months ago when you bought it as a rough ball park figure, simples :-)

Smithy, not that easy, I actually swapped it for a car that was also difficult to value.

I guess it was circa 2.5-2.7k then and I thought that was good value, considering he'd knocked a grand off what he thought it was worth then as he thought the paintwork was screwed, but he hadn't even tried t-cutting.

2k would therefore be a little disappointing.

if you look at ebay motors and auto trader you'll see what people are asking.... but not what they get.

times are hard for a lot of people now and with the price of petrol the market for these is getting smaller so the price goes down.

unfortunately the lower the price the more people who aren't prepared to spend the cash these cars need spent on them will turn up so you may be lucky to pass it off to someone who doesn't know what they're getting into. :(

and as mentioned if it has issues like the paint and rust and running issues any buyer will be wondering why you want rid of.

but best of luck and try to do the most you can to get it as respectable as possible.

Your biggest enemy on that car is the faded paint as its going to cost someone a lot more than a rebuff if it doesnt come out via a good polish - T-cut.

Id say 2.3k is a reasonable price to ask in its current state, restore it and have a nice manual zed to drive about in.

Thanks guys... well I'm off to the car wash in a mo, will hope for some dry weather to have another crack at restoring the paint tomorrow and then will either put up for sale privately or look at garages and a trade in, might be easier...

Shame to sell but I've had my fun and I do a lot of miles so really need something more fuel economical.

A clean UK TT manual with tidy paint work, no major mechanical faults and a reasonable mileage, I'd say is worth 3-4k. With tired looking paint, a crunchy gearbox, acceleration hesitation and 146k (below average but I would still consider this high for a zed), I think you'd be looking at 1.5-2k. A mint UK TT manual with immaculate paint, tip top mechanicals/structurals, decent history, with around 70k would command 5.5k and a long wait to sell! 4.5-5 quick sale.

Random figures as a reflection of my current assessment of the zed market for UK manual TT's :)

I dont know where these 2k+ prices arte coming from. Its UK spec, its rotting from inside out, no pics, engine faults, new G/box/clutch required and the paintwork sounds like it needs more than elbow grease.

id like to think someone would see it as a project and give you a grand but it sounds like one for breaking and the scrapheap at least thats what i think a garage would look at it as.

Didn't you read it properly? the rust has been sorted out with just a few rust bubbles remaining, a small hesitation issue that clears from cold is fixable, most likely something simple as well, paint work ok is faded but might just need a good deep polish / t-cut. a stiff gear on the manual box isnt all that uncommon and can be as simple as changing the oil as most people forget about gearbox oil changes.

Id hardly write the car off for that.

read it fine zeds rot from the inside out if there is still bubbles after a fix then it is alot worse than a few bubbles to deal with. Best case your looking at an oil change on the g/box but are you gonna garantee that on the sale of the car? Worse case new g/box required you do the maths. Hence scrapheap

and it`s red :)

LOL some mixed opinions there!

Well it seems chopping it in is going to be hit or miss depending on the dealer, but if I spot a decent car at a dealers I may as well ask and see what they offer... else I'm going to crack on sorting the paint and get it over to Zedworld to address the hesitation issue as soon as I can, and see if they can take a look at that crunchy gear change (it's only 4th, the gearbox and clutch are smooth/solid otherwise).

hurry up Happy Larry I've got some new coffee in for you to try out...

Well I am pretty sure we have established the value on a decent condition multi-owner JDM auto with the following two auctions on ebay around a month apart:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181022458700?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Yes this is the one that I won with the highest bid the first time £100 more than what it has finished on now. I would have bid again this time but I have sorted myself a Zee since.... He should have taken my original offer what do you guys think??? although no doubt he wont let that bidder have the car at that price after AGAIN listing an auction without reserve
