Can you use ordinary silicone on water pipes etc????

I carry loads in stock and seems a shame to go out and by so say silicone sealant for your car etc

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure you can, it's all silicon at the end of the day.

Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong :)

this is a debatable i use it on water pipes and other places ... some will say to use Proper stuff

just dont go over the top putting it on as its only going to squash out the sides

so a small rubbed on amount will be better than beading it on

Are we talking about using white bath silicone sealant in replacement of instant gasket i wouldnt risk it not sure if it can cope with the tempertures .The best stuff i found is the red stuff nissan use seems better than that blue instant gasket stuff .

No will not use it on cam covers....but this instance just carried out a egr delete and need to use some kind of sealant on the blanks under the plenium.

Thanks all for the replies....just the response I wanted

I just did the same to mine, I bought five different thickness sheets of gasket paper for a few quid, drew around the blank and cut it out. I remember people saying before not to use RTV to seal the upper plenum on as it can blow easily so thought this would apply with these also as at the same pressure. Not saying it's wrong just saying what I did

with me being a flat roofer then i cottoned on to this for gaskets a couple of years ago...1 Sq meter will last you ages for making your own gaskets. Great stuff and stands the heat too (none exhaust of course) just make sure its the none fleece back stuff:thumbup1:
