When I stripped mine it cost me less to buy a better example than it was gonna cost to fix it so it was a logical step

the more the crap is broken up would be better for the loved cars ... Price/value wise

suppose so but some of them dont look that bad still say its about pound notes or the fact that there worth more in bits than complete cars

" hi bud whats wrong with the car why are you striping it maybe interested in a few bits "

Agree with the concerns over the depleation of apperently good Zeds, but still had you first in line, for parts, which just goes on to encourage it!! Lol

I guess with little money around and a flat market for prices, when needs must these expensive hobbies make more sense breaking (especially with interesting bits on board) then trying to keep on running.

If you have the knowledge and know how, then getting problem cars fixed is all part of the Fun!, but many of us buy them to use for the fun of it, given the supposed high reliability and build quality, but when they go wrong the "specialist" reccomended repairers are a bit to specialist! for many peoples budgets.

Obviously fewer cars on the market with good clean spec is better for future values, but with less cars in the system, will also make them even more expensive to run and maintain, making them less attractive to get into...catch 22!

does make me wonder about how long i'll keep the old girl for...with the ever increasing parts prices.

only saving grace is, with using the car sparingly, those bills come around less often. last 2 months i've chopped the rot, welding done, spraying done (£300), mot (£50)- failed on brake pipe corrosion, another £400 getting that fixed and upgraded to copper. no other advisories though, so maybe thats my lot for the year?!

trying to keep the car fairly standard looking, as its the stock ones that will be worth a mint going forward. i havent messed with the cosmetics!

There are people stripping 3 / 4 zeds at a time at the moment, why arent they paying traders fees so the monies go into the clubs funds?

If the car is beyond economical repair, strip it and use the parts to create some good ones..

ive only ever stripped 3 cars, still got my blue one that still has parts on, first zed i stripped was due to dodgy turbos, not enough space and the need to replace it, so used the cash to fund a replacement, second zed was actually acquired with the intention of repairing it, but once it got here, it had a hell of a lot more wrong with it than the owner originally told me, pricing it up for repair just seemed uneconomical to do so, my blue zed took a rear end hit, so that is also in the process of being stripped, but since i decided to do that, the market became flooded with cars being broken, so its just been left for now until things quieten down.

I understand stripping a car that has been heavily modified, as you will make a lot more cash selling the uprated parts then the rest of the bits people need, than if you sold the car as a whole.

What i dont get though, is stripping a car for the hell of stripping it, why not put it back to standard and sell as a whole? you will still get the cash for the parts and help save a 300zx in the process, ok its a lot more work involved, but it is doable, Andy Isherwood was doing it with his as far as i know.

It is a shame though, when you see a good example going to the scrappers just because its worth more in parts, but who can blame anyone, in this current climate, and these cars being not only seasonal, but also not very well known, people tend to stay clear, add onto that the rising fuel costs and maintenance costs and apart from being fast and looking good, there really isnt that much going for them.

Sad but true fact.

It's a double edged sword, I hate seeing them getting broken but keep buying used parts off them! If its relatively healthy then try I would like to think people would save them...

just cant understand where the passion has gone for these cars perhaps too many falling into the wrong hands they must become a classic some day (thats if there are any left )

think this threads going to get out of hand quickly. as staring to take offence to the comments...

i loved my zed, nearly bankrupted me on a weekly basis to keep the thing going, but after 2 years of fixing it just to have something else fail on it it starts to get to you, but it was one of the hardest decision I've ever made to strip it for bits.

as it happens im on the verge of changing my mind... seeing it stripped out and what slick pete has done, i've just had my mates round measuring it up for a roll cage,

I read loads on here but rarley answer anything but TBH, I have to agree with Spritley56, I once owned a N/A import & loved it, always wanted the TT, to break a iconic car is sacrilege, these cars are far & few between & should be kept in pristine condition. If you cant afford to run it correctly then ''DONT FOOKING BUY IT'' IMHO most people that get them these days do because ''they look good & go fast'' there is no passion there & its a sad shame. Money means more to some people than the vehicle. I own a Nissan & am willing to throw more money at it to keep it it tip top nick than what its worth because its rarity & i love the vehicle. We restored a Nissan Bluebird rare SR turbo last year & sold it back to the origional owner at a loss, peace of mind that car is still going strong.

Get a grip you lot & stop seeing pound notes!

dunno why matey, people strip for genuine reasons, its people constantly buying a zed just to dismantle it with no intentions of fixing it and selling as whole, or buying a decent zed and dismantling it as well when not owning it for even long enough to get the V5 through the post, just because they see an easy way to get some cash.

Problem is, its such a rare car, when that happens the market gets saturated with parts, so makes it hard to shift as its such a small market. hence why we have to protect our own trader who has spent cash out of his own pocket to offer parts for sale on a regular basis.

People stripping cars because they are at their tether with it, they have plowed enough money into it they are trying to recoup costs, is totally different.

nice one vods totally agree

What an interesting thread! A small part of me dies when I see any remotely rare car bought and broke simply cos its 'worth more in bits'. The passion for lots of cars seemed to be dying out, even the previously huge Ford RS owners clubs are getting smaller and smaller and people are buying the cars without the love for them, run them into the ground then break them.

Sad times.

I think i qualify for being an Enthusiast, im on my 7th one, last one is being broken as its a Cat C write off and was causing me way too much hassle.

used to own a cosworth some years ago i know exactly what your talking about bud my passion was the same for that as is for my 300

Only 7??!! Christ! They can't all go on forever and it's inevitable some will die to help others :-)

Long live the passion though

Amen to that. I've been quite clear why I came to the difficult decision with mine, it's still mot'd and insured until April, I keep going round in circles and might be putting the car back to standard and starting again.

Strange thread. Loads of members break cars and are not traders. The OP wants to see Zeds' saved but posts on a breaking thread asking for goodies. Economically if it was your own car and you'd make more from breaking, providing you had the facilities, what would you do?

Rules should be adhered to though, or traders fees refunded. IMO of course.

ive got to agree with daffy on some of what he's saying all paying members should be treated equally , everyone has the same rights as subscribers. i fully understand that some people might just use this site for there own benefit as a trading advertisement but there are also the average joe aswel who needs to stay on the breadline.

Everyone has the same rights, the right to abide by the club rules, Everyone accepts them when they sign up , we have incentives for people to go from registered users to paid up members, to traders.

There is a reason we have set traders, and protect those traders where possible, they have a vested interest in the club by becoming traders and we in turn have to respect that, as should our members.

There are other avenues for the average joe who needs to stay on the breadline, trying to flaunt the rules is not one of those avenues, as it treads on the toes of those who have paid and invested interest in supplying our members with services that usually provide a secure way of dealing with a genuine business. this way we can monitor and protect our members.

To be fair Vods, it does seem that a fairly new low poster is being treated differently to long standing high post count members when it comes to advertising/breaking/offering parts for sale (admittedly he's being blatant lol) . You don't need to be a genius to work out who these may be. If I was Jeff I'd be a bit miffed. But you can't as a forum have one rule for one and one for some.

how about protecting all your members not just hand picked ones, im sure there are honest members like myself who are not traders who cant get the same benefits out of the site. the only thing i've sold on this site is a £7 relay and i'm being treat like i'm running 'general motors' ive being a member for a while now and i have particapated in discussions and enjoyed using the site. i fully understand traders make there living from these sites but what gives them the right to say who can sell what. if i was a trader i would be quite happy to pay the 100 but im not a trader. dont get me wrong the fort has crossed my mind, there is nothing i'd like more than to sit on my behind and get payed for doing sweet nothing. was that last comment by vodkashots aimed at me because i'd like 2know what rules i am trying to flaunt?

Edited by dkboro121

I can assure all members that we do not treat some members differently to others. Everybody in the club has agreed to the rules that we have all accepted as part of our membership. And EVERYBODY (mods, committee and members) abide by these rules.

Dkboro121 please do not use this thread for your own agenda. You have been told via PM why the club considers you as back door trading. Let's just say that calling yourself "jap-cars-north-east" on ebay and the zed in your avatar also being broken plus the silver TT and now the red one. Doesn't make you look like a typical member. Yes you have participated in discussions on the forum but the majority of your threads concern selling items.

If you have spoken to our TLO then you know the reasons behind the clubs decision
