well, good and bad news!

1. The cars pretty solid, suspension all good, tyres good, etc etc... BUT..

2. Needs new brake pipes all the way through..

i've been quoted over £400 including VAT/labour/parts/sundries, purely because of the labour time.

Thats a fair bob but I suppose its something you dont have to worry about afterwards. Have you managed to ring around for quotes?

I paid £ 350 all inc on my old zed but that was about a year ago.

i'm on the case ringing around now. tough for people to quote without having a look with these motors though! I've just ordered braided flexis while i'm at it. :)

If you can get most of the parts yourself it could work out cheaper than a garage supplying and they you would only have to pay for the labour time.

parts for this will be buttons, its the labour in doing them that costs and at £400 all in its a very good price, the guide they all use to price jobs is apperently wrong for this type of work, its takes longer, but when i had mine done they found it was easier to drop the diff off to do them?

They need to drop the whole rear subframe mate.

John get a quote from them then they can't change the price :)

That is not bad considering the time and effort needed to do the work. As said, once it's done though, it will not need doing again as long as you own the car. JeffTT did the ones on my old red ZX; replacing them with copper pipes so they won't rust again...! Give him a call (not sure when he's back from his holidays though) and ask.

havent had any better quotes to be fair, so think i'll give them a buzz tomorrow and just go ahead. I've used them for years so I trust their workmanship etc... its a just a smack to the wallet seemings i spent £300 on welding last month thinking that was all she would really need doing.. pleased with the condition of everything else under there though, not bad for a 110k mile motor thats now 20 years young,

right, shes booked in for full replacement of the lines next week. I've ordered some stainless braided lines to replace the rubber flexis too while i'm at it.

dent in the wallet, last one for a while i hope though! Audrey, you are getting expensive!

What did you get the quote down to for this John?

  • Author

the quotes between prices... 6-8 hours labour, but its between 350 and 400... depends what they have to remove at the rear of the car to get decent access etc.
