well as many of you know my engine is out atm, the engine bay is looking nice the guffs been removed like aivs etc all the dross is removed from the block like the egr etc. nice shiney rebuilt t25s bolted back on and im virtually ready to put the engine back in.

So heres the problem. my reverse lights stopped working shortly after the manual conversion, i assumed that was because the connection had come off, well it hasnt. trouble is i cant test the switch again because the loom is disconnected from the car. atm pulling the box out is easy peasey, because its only held in by the box mount and the prop, so pulling it out atm makes loads of sense. so short of putting the engine in, and testing it finding out it doesnt work then pulling the box out the hard way later. what do i need to hook up to check the functionality? and is the switch on the box changeable? i think its probally more iklety the connection to the switch rather than the switch but still...

sugestions please this is a big bug atm i nee dto rectify before i pop the engine bcak in and get the big red demon back again.

First off, yes switch is replaceable. I would have thought a simple continuity test would tell you mate. Stick the box in reverse and see if the connections made. If not then duff switch?

Have you checked the bulb? :oops: :lol:

no but theres two so im guessing they didnt both blow, unless theres a dedicated fuse which has blown.

Sorry mate missed that post.

 

Some multimeters have a continuity function on them mine doesn't so I set it to the lowest resistance setting it does. Test the meter by touching the probes together, the display should change to read 0. Now connect the probe to the switch terminals (doesn't mater which way round you connect them) then put the box into reverse. If the switch is working the multimeter should read 0, if the display stay the same (mine says -1 when no connection) then the switch is working. Take it out of gear and the meter should change. Try this a couple of times and if you are getting a signal then not, the switch is fine.

 

Haven't really explained it very well but hopefully you can get what I'm on about.

right today we tested the switch it passed intermittently, after removing it and trying it off the car it still only works intermittently, so the switch is jiggered. we did also apply a live to the pins in the wiring loom and the lights lit up yey! however testing with a multimeter there is no live being supplied to the plug next to the hicas. which may also be an issue or is it because the alternator/transmisson loom is disconnected, from memory they are the same loom?

fuse number 19 is apparently the back up lamp fuse, and its looking like the reverse light is the same on a nissan navara and many other models x trail etc.

hjeff save dthe day it was the autobox fuse third fronm the right on the bottom row.

 

 

THIRD FUSE FROM THE RIGHT ON THE BOTTOM ROW STEVE!! IN THE DRIVERS FOOTWELL!! :laugh:
