Just back from holidays in Spain after doing 2700 trouble free miles.

Took car out for spin this evening and after 3 miles the power steering got heavy, then the Oil Diff/Lights/Batterry lights came on and car overheated after a couple of secs. Stopped the car immediately and got a tow home.

On inspection none of my belts are turning. Just got Water pump timing belt and fan belt done 3000 miles ago by nissan.

The nut at the centre of my flywheel seems to be loose and is tipping of the fan.

Is this nut the only thing keeping the flywheel on??

Is the timing belt also connected here somewhere. If the flywheel isnt turning is my timing belt turning? and If so is my engine now damaged??

There also seeems to be metal shards around the belt area from the nut. What could be causing this.

am I looking at another costly bill.

Thanks

Roy

Will the problems ever end

sounds to me like they have not torqued up the nut on your front pulley (not flywheel, thats on the rear wink.gif )

It must have slipped off the key in the end of the crank

The cams should still be turning becuase they are driven on a sprocket behind the front pulley (lucky for you). Hopefully you will be able to relocate the pulley and tighten it up and everything will be fine providing the key/keyway hasnt been chewed up. This is definatly the garages fault though make no mistake!!!!

Sounds to me like the water pump has gone west and the bearing has colapsed. Have a look at pulley behind the fan - is it clamped tightley by the viscous coupling to the water pump or not???

Can you take a picture of it???
