Anyone non mechanic pulled their engine before????

Hi I have Nissan 300zx and I am thinking off pulling the engine out to fit my GT2860 tubs! Other than a PCV kit replace and an airfilter I haven't performed any kind of mechanical work on my zed, so has anyone on here ever taken their engine out??? Just want a bit of feedback to see what i'm up against

i can not see how he could say they fit a 300zx ... as they havent even been fitted for Left/Right sides

they look like Godspeed tubs or Chinese type ... and like u pointed out Cheap and could blow at 1k

and with the 300 ... its engine out do u want to risk it

out of interest what did u pay for them ?

Well i bought them used but brand new and paid only £315!! I asked are they garrett and will they fit my car and seller answered yes! but lesson learnt

Silly mistak really but there we go, my car has been really well looked after since import in 1999 so i'm not about to go cheapy cheap on it

by the size of the tub yes they would fit ... its about the largest u can go with out really hacking out Car chassis and other parts ...

Other than that they wasnt Made with the 300 in mind due to

Clocking

Vac tap

Actuator Placement ( Brackets )

Pipe work Fitment

Exhaust outlet 5 bolt

given the size of the turbos what else were you planning to run with them? is it still a std engine?

if so then you might want to consider something a bit more tame.

Mods are full SS exhaust and air filter so yeah engine is fairly standard, at the time of doing the turbos of course the injectors would be uprated along with SMIC to get the best out of them, what turbos have you pictures above?? are they on your zed

and what would you suggest to be more tame??

If you mean the pics of turbos that I posted mate, they are Garrett GT675RS roller bearing turbos from Z1 in the States and are sat on my work bench at the moment staring lovingly at a forged lump on an engine stand...

I posted the pics to show what I was trying to explain about the inlet adaptor plate that can be rotated, rather than just two drilled bolt holes in the housing the plate has several small allen/hex bolts so that the plate can be relocated to adjust the rotation of the housing

Will be an awesome engine when complete

Oh that thought has passed through my mind as the ole girl is 22 years old, so I spoke to Luke at Zcentre and seeing as my car has only covered about 62000 miles has a massive service history previously owned for 10 years, he said it should be ok, however if it was start pushing serious BHP then I would get the pistons and everything replaced just so there's no nasty surprises

let me say this very clearly.

MAKE SURE YOUR AIR FUEL RATIO IS CORRECT

no matter how well looked after its still over 20 years old and it would be a terrible shame to see you ripping the heart out because youv'e melted a piston. have you done a leakdown to see how healthy the compression is?

well said,

was about to say mine was given a clean bill of health and has done about the same miles as yours, but something has caused it to kill cylinder 6

in the space of a week,

it went from 150psi to 50psi compression in 7 days, hence why mines now getting a forged rebuild.

Well as it stands my car is fairly stock all mods are getting cleared before they happen I WILL NOT be running high psiwithout as you said the right fuel/air ratio, I am a bit of a worrier when it comes to my car so I wont be slamming on big turbos and 'nailing' it down the road, I love my car too much to break it, sad but true
