How or what can be done to stop forum spam, I am a member on a very small forum that deals with property matters, its less than one year old a couple hundred members but it keeps getting spammed! just as a thread gets interesting a post selling ugg boots or girls or whatever comes up, is there any software or is it a case of watching out for it and getting it deleted by a mod?

 

Any help would be appreciated as the forum is good and do not want it to suffer.

We just deleate and bann Jeff I think its the only way.

I'm not sure mate - we get our fair share of spammers too and the mods are vigilant in removing the crap....

 

.....but that said, we get nowhere near the amount we used to get; so maybe there is something in our forum software that filters out the majority of it, leaving just a small minority to squeeze through. I'm no IT guru, but no doubt someoe here will have an answer....

Works not to bad but on Z Club found a few were getting through so we took it a step further and put a question up that users had to answer on account sign up On the Z Club we have had one get through in the last year or so

Jeff - what CMS (forum/site content) does the site you refer to run on

 

Reason I ask is I also own three vbulletin based sites (same CMS as this one uses) and one is a very modified vbulletin community

 

I reprogrammed thatone so much so you would not even recognise it as a vbulletin anymore - so I may know a thing or three about the sort of stuff you are asking
