Problems with oil pressure

Hi all,

Has anyone out there had problems with either the oil pressure gauge or the sender?

I find it hard to believe that my oil pressure can vary between about 10psi and 60psi under the same driving conditions. I'm not talking about idling versus driving, here, I mean when I'm actually going along.

Generally, when I'm running down the motorway at 90'ish, she runs about 60psi. However, just lately, when I look one minute; it's reading 60psi like normal, then about 25psi the next (at the same revs, temp, etc).

No problems with performance, smog from the rear or anything like that, so after initially sh*tting myself, I've resigned it to the gauge or sender.

Does anyone have any experience of this happening, or is there some other explanation for bizarre, variable oil pressure?

Thanks a lot.

John.

Hello John,

If you do a search you'll find out how many people have said they're crap and they are.

The way to fix it is either a new sender unit, or for the same money (or less) fit an after market gauge which is what I intend on doing.

Yep I agree with Vijay.

Mine was doing the same thing so got a new one from Nelson at about 80 squids if I remember rightly.

Does fix the erratic reading problem but they are still sh1te.

Get an aftermarket one like an autometer gauge and get a more accurate reading for less money spent! wink.gif

Thanks very much Vijay,

Have done the search you suggest and see that I'm certainly no the first to encounter this kind of problem!

Will give it a go with the stock sender, see how long this lasts for .... if it's no good, I'll go aftermarket.

Thanks for averting the panic that was whispering knackered engine in my ear!!

Best,

John.
