As Autoresto have stopped doing their LED lights I am now stuck as I've removed my bolt on fog light. Does anybody know of another supplier or can somebody post up a guide to build one for complete idiots?

mate, there are a number of ways to setup a rear fog that is better than the ugly bolt one junk.

 

1 - convert one (or both) of one of the break light bulbs in each side of the rear light assembly (unless you get it done properly it makes it look like one of the break lights is out, not my favorite).

 

2 - convert one of the reverse light bulbs (easiest & cheapest solution, just the price of a red bulb).

 

3 - add extra bulb holder/s to the reverse light section/s (my personal favorite but unless you already have the parts, is more expensive and a lot more work that either of the others).

the wiring is the easy part... you should have the power (and possibly earth) from your old bolt on fog.

 

it must come out of the car somewhere, just keep it inside the car and connect up to the new setup.

 

the usual thing if for it to be connected to the front fog switch, so as long as you haven't removed the wire/s you should be good to go.

A bit extreme that and you must be stark raving mad to do it but admittedly an option :huh:

 

I have attempted option 3 just on the bench messing and found the filament bulbs were 'kissing' or very near to each other inside the chamber but with stumpier led bulbs for both the reverse and fog this will not be a problem and will also help keep the heat down :clap: this is actually a good balanced way of dealing with the jdm fog light issue.

Option number 5 change rear lights to 6 pot LEDs

 

I removed all the old wiring as to be frank it was bloody dangerous. Ill wire it into the front fogs I reckon, I'm assuming that's relatively easy?

 

As for 6 pit lights................ just no!

I wouldn't wire to come on with front fogs, you really want an illuminated switch just for the rear fogs that gets it's power from the sidelights, I put my front fogs on all the time with the pod switch, it is very rare you will actually need your rear fogs at all :biggrin:

That last bit is true - rear fogs should only be used when visibility is down to 100 metres or less (about 20 car lengths) and let's be honest, it's rarely that foggy. I just wish the morons who switch their rear fogs on when there's a little bit of mist or fog knew that - FFS, if you can see the cars way out in front of you, and they don't have rear fogs on, then that clearly means you don't need them!!!

 

But back to the plot - if I had a J-spec car then I'd take the easy option and convert the right-hand reverse light using a red bulb.....

Yes they leave the fogs on for the duration of their journey not realizing the fog light is the same brightness as the brake lights :angry: so sometimes you cannot tell which is which and it's your fault if you go up their rear :thumbdown:
