Had the car Sorn for a while. and wondered if the battery will be good with a full charge after 10-month of just the odd start.

otherwise what battery will be best for a TT? also what are the pro's and cons of gel batteries on zed's?

I didn't disconnect it. just left it in the car as is. how long will it need charging for from flat by the way?

Funnily enough I just replaced my battery today. I had left it to run flat and it had been that way for a few months. The AA guy was explaining that if it was completely flat it would never properly recharge and even it if did it would probably fail in a month.

The battery recommended is a relatively low amperage one (think its 500). I ended up getting an updated 640 Bosch one - works a treat!

I figured that will be the fate of it after a long non-charging duration.

is there a preferred ratting for zed's though? or the higher the better? as saw some 800+cca and various ah rates. are these crycial for matching to the car's electrics?

The guy at the store and AA guy explained that a higher rating is better and will provide more oomph to get the engine started – I definitely have noticed a difference using the Bosch one compared to when I inserted my previous battery new.

What he said though is that if the amperage is TOO high the alternator can sometimes have a problem charging it and for that reason recommended not to go too far over 700. I'm sure many on here will have stronger batteries than that if they have powerful in car audio setups etc. So they would be able to tell you how true that is.

The battery i've got is perfect for me – especially with winter coming – and the difference in price was 12 pounds with the recommended battery.

Only proviso is that the AA guy said since the uprated battery was being used in a car that it wasn't recommended for that they couldnt provide a guarantee with it if I bought it direct from them (which is why I bought it from a motorspares shop who didnt seem to care).

EDIT - the preferred rating is given in a manual that most breakdown guys / car spares shops carry - think they said the recommended battery type was a 3030 and rated at about 500amps but don't quote me.

SirMixalot, Thanks a lot for the great update. now i wonder if alternator will need to have anything done to it or is there a test for it to check its efficiency? as to see if it will cope ok or needs a MOD..
