Would an auto engine fit into a manual car?

Basicallt, would the engine (block and head) fit into a manually geared car? I assume that I'd need the flywheel from the manual engine and fit this to the auto block or sommat?

...help !

Given that you can convert an auto car to have a manual gearbox it should be possible to mate an auto engine with a manual gearbox. I think the engines are basically the same in that regard. There are differences with the cam timing but that should not effect installation

Bad move I think. Anyway from memory the Auto ECU will work with a manual engine but not the other way around. The auto engine will require some work to mate it to the man gearbox too. wrong flywheel etc.

I think the Turbos are different aswell.

Dont know what difference it will make though.

Just something else to consider!

From what I have heard, the turbos in the auto engine are slightly smaller than a manual. This is a good thing when put with a manual box as the turbos spin up faster giving quicker boost. Therefore in theory, a manual Z with an auto box should be quicker than one with a manual engine. Please correct me if I am wrong!!

Quicker where ? The auto engine produces considerably more torque lower in the rev range to compensate for the characteristics of the auto box (more losses, fewer gears etc) Therefore, if you put a auto gearbox in a manual car you will probably end up with somewhat slower acceleration, but the same top, or maybe slightly higher top end.

I did the opposite when I blew my engine. The s/hand manual engine mated to the old auto box gives a slightly little slower takeoff now but mid range is better and the top end is no different.

Z first and anything else is secondary!

I was just quoting from forums of people who have done the conversion. I assumed that having more torque at lower revs plus the turbos spinning up quicker would have meant that acceleration would have been quicker, not slower!??

Just realised that I completely misread your question. You're talking about mating an auto engine to a manual gearbox, which is exactly the same (in principle) as putting a manual gearbox in an auto car - yes it will work and yes all the bits will fit, given enough time and work.

I was suggesting that putting an auto box in a manual car is likely to produce less than optimal results.

Yes, the auto turbos are smaller, so they spin up faster. TT M/T 300bhp, TT A/T280bhp.

However, the auto TT will beat the manual to 100mph. To say that turbos are a mixed blessing is a real understatement. For a lot less time, hassle, money, and fuel consumption, you can boost an NA engine to 280 bhp with no turbo lag... because there are no turbos.

K&N air filter $200 +5hp, headers $560 +15hp, JWT ECU $520 +12hp, UD pulley w/belts $200 +15hp and so on.

I'd rather have that than an unmodified turbo... more reliable, anyway.

The auto ECU works with the M/T powertrain, but not the other way around. There is an extra connection for the auto that becomes redundant if you swap in a manual tranny.
