Hi guys just though I'd share this with the forum. A few months ago I had a slight vibration on my car when doing speeds below 50mph, I did get loads of advice and most guys said it might have been the prop. Changed it and I still had the same problem and trust me when i say i wasn't a happy man. Parked it up for a whole month because of this, it was doing my head in. Then last saturday took it to my local tyre shop to put some new tyres on and as soon as he took the first wheel off boom i spotted it. All my wheels were missing this plastic ring spacer thats sits between the rim and the hub. so bought four put them on and I was spot on, no more vibration she drives like new :).

thanks m8 i bought a 300 a few weeks ago, i have same prob so will look at that myself, think them rings are called opturating rings. but thanks will look when i start stripping down as the lower arm is split so good excuse now to look.

spiggot rings are common place on 3rd party wheels.

i've got a problem with vibration under braking. i'm guessing warped disc, as I have no vibration when accelerating or @/around 60 which would have suggested a good wheel balance. any other ideas?

medallion man posted a link above. am i right in thinking decent d1 wheel nuts will help the wheels centre down better? i had a problem on my rx7 where the stock nuts didnt centre down nicely and you could still see the thread on the stud.

Good call on the spigot rings.....

....when I bought my new wheels, the tyre fitters put on new tyres, balanced them up etc; but said that the bolts would hold the wheels in place so I was wasting my time using the rings supplied.....

....But then the car developed a slight steering wheel judder after a week or so, so I went to another fitter (for convenience) for a re-balance. Immediately the chap said it was because of the missing spigot rings - he told me not to waste money with a re-balance and put the rings on first; just to see if that cured the problem. I did just that when I got home - and he was dead right; no more vibes!!

Amazing what a little plastic ring can do!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The amount of times i've had tyres swapped or my wheels off and not once has anyone ever suggested this to me. Ive changed my prop, hicas arms, inner and outer numerous tyre size changes and tracking checks but i've never been able to stop my vibration. this may actually be the final answer.

What size do i need to buy? are they bought to fit the alloy or is it just the same size for every hub?

depends what centre bore your alloy wheel is.. the 300zx hub should always be the same, but the Outer diameter of the spig ring should match the inner edge of your alloys.

Exactly...

the 300zx hub is 66.1mm but the alloys are varied...

this is an example of some on ebay.. but you need to know the wheel size.

The spigot rings I bought were slightly bigger but managed to shave a bit off. They cost me 45quid but im guessing prices vary.

so it sounds like a wheel off and vernier jobby :detective: . I'll have to get it done, would like to have them when i fit my coilovers next week.

Does the size have to be spot on? the wheel's a bit tight to get a vernier in, i think they're around 74mm will it make a difference if they're a little out?

yes... that the problem now... if they aren't centring the wheel right then it's not worth having them...

go to a wheels shop they should have some on the shelf... take a wheel off and into the shop.... (66.1mm for the hub)
